Eamon agrees to write the noble lady...a generous offer that will forever leave him a changed man. Lady Luella Jane Moran has no interest in an arranged marriage and tries valiantly to dissuade her betrothed from afar. Karen’s Review

Entwined by Kristen Callihan is a gem of a paranormal novella.   The novella is part of her Darkest London series, but can be read as a standalone book as it pre dates all of those books by over 40 years.  The setting is Regency England after Napolean’s defeat at Waterloo.  A young couple Aidan Evernight (nineteen) and Lady Luella Moran (sixteen) daughter of the Earl of Ballyloch are destined to be wed.   This is an arranged marriage between the two and Lady Luella isn’t happy.  She writes to Aidan trying to gain his help in stopping the marriage.  Aidan doesn’t want to be married, but believes it is his familiar duty.  He enlist his shy brother Eamon to convince Lady Luella to accept the inevitable marriage.  As Eamon has a better way with the written word, than Aidan does.   What ensues is touching correspondences between the two young people Eamon pretending to be Aidan and Luella. They have a several year correspondence; as the wedding will not take place until Aidan reaches his maturity and has a year to ‘sow is wild oat’, before he settles down into married life.

The heart of the book is a love story between two characters who have always lived in the shadow of their families responsibilities.  The correspondence that is much of the first quarter of the book are both charming and insightful.  The love story is sweet, and when passion take place Callihan with her mastery of words made my heart leap, and stutter.  The paranormal element, like in all of Callihan’s Darkest London series, never overshadows the humanity of the characters.  Her stories are at the heart are about relationships, not about the supernatural.   I whole heartedly recommend this sparkling read.

Darkest London is probably my favorite series right now. I haven’t read a book in the series that I haven’t fallen in love with, yet.

I love Fever series by KMM and Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. A started a new series by Anne Bishop, Written in Red which has become a new favorite; right up there with the Patricia Briggs.
