Synopsis

Twelve. Twelve of the deadliest beasts ever forged in the fires of hell have escaped onto our plane, and they want nothing more than to rip out the jugular of Charley Davidson and serve her lifeless, mangled body to Satan for dinner. So there’s that. But Charley has more on her plate than a mob of testy hellhounds. For one thing, her father has disappeared, and the more she retraces his last steps, the more she learns he was conducting an investigation of his own, one that has Charley questioning everything she’s ever known about him. Add to that an ex-BFF who is haunting her night and day, a rash of suicides that has authorities baffled, and a drop-dead sexy fiancé who has attracted the attentions of a local celebrity, and Charley is not having the best week of her life.

A tad north of hell, a hop, skip, and a jump past the realm of eternity, is a little place called Earth, and Charley Davidson, grim reaper extraordinaire, is determined to do everything in her power to protect it.

We’re doomed.

Just finished up the latest Daryenda Jones book Seventh Grave and No Body. This is the seventh full length Charley Davidson book in the series, and Jones has written a fast paced, action packed and gripping paranormal mystery romance.  The series centers around Charley Davidson ADHD  private investigator extordinaire.  She has a crime solving clear rate that is unparalleled, and she works as a consultant for the Albuquerque  Police Department.  She has been working for them a very longtime as her father is a retired cop and her uncle is still on the force.  You see Charley can see dead people, and they usually point her in the direction of the dastardly person who bumped them off, if they were bumped off.  Charley happens not to be psychic, or even dropped on her head as a kid, she happens to be the Grim Reaper, as in robe wearing, scythe carrying Grim Reaper, but not as creepy, kinda shiny and with a lot more ADHD involved.  She also has one killer sense of humor.  That sense of humor is what keeps these books fresh, as Jones writes her books with such affection and heart you can’t help to be swept away by plot and the characters.  One of the highlights of reading a Jones book is seeing what each chapter little saying will be, they are hilarious fortune cookies of fun.

Charley is surrounded by a cast of wonderful friends, family, ghosts and demons that make this and everyone of Jones’s books such a enjoyable read.  Throw in the scorching hot love between Charley and her demon lover Reyes Farrow, and you have perfection.  Charley has some of the best friends a Grim Reaper could want and her relationship with her BFF Cookie is true blue, hopefully nothing ever damages this perfect union.  Yes, I worry as no one or nothing is ever safe in a Charley Davidson book, as death comes to us all.

In this newest book The Dealer who was introduced in Sixth Grave and on the Edge, and is now a regular in Charley’s motley crew; we find out his name, Charley trust him and Reyes doesn’t.   Can anyone say conflict! During this read I wonder if The Dealer isn’t to Baby Farrow what Reyes is to Charley? Spin Off Series.

Reyes and Charley are together a lot in this book, and the banter between both of these supernatural beings is fantastic.  Even when these two characters fight, they do it with love.

As with all of Jones’s book Charley has several mysteries to solve, and also she finds puzzle pieces to the mystery which is her own existence.  The author leaves enough threads hanging to keep me wanting the next book, as I finished her latest, but she also gives me enough answers that I never feel created or strung along, like a addict waiting for her Charley fix.  Charley said it herself in this book she is addictive.    Warning, if you start this series you won’t be able to stop until you have scarfed down all the chewy, fluffy goodness that is Charley Davidson aka The Grim Reaper.
