I went into this book blind. Lover Michelle tagged me in a post and designated Debbie and me as her book testers. Honestly if Michelle reads another romantic, cliche-filled book, her head might explode. Seriously, that would be messy. So, I bought the book and told her I would read it, which I did. Obviously because now you are reading a review of Here’s to Falling by Christine Zolendz.Well maybe you aren’t reading a review of the book but more my feelings as I read the book.
First off Zolendz wrote a prologue that sucked me into the life of Charlotte and Joey, as they watch the new alien kid move into the neighborhood. Charlotte’s voice, as the main narrator is snarky, witty, and fresh–sometimes self deprecating, which sang to my soul.
Second, the book kept me entranced as I journeyed along with both young Charlotte and her older self throughout her life. I rejoiced when she rejoiced, cried when she cried, smiled when she smiled, railed at life when she railed, bled when she bled, and lied when she deceived for reasons you come to understand as the book progresses.
This isn’t you typical girl meets boy romance, as there is nothing typical about this powerfully written story that is both uplifting and gut wrenching at the same time. It is a tale that needs to be read and experienced, and I don’t think any two people will have the same experience as they read it. So if you like to read books that go beyond idyllic love and those that go beyond new adult cookie cutter romances, then Here’s to Falling is definitely for you. But be forewarned this is a dark, gritty, and messy read, which is well worth the price of admission as it will touch you and you may never be the same after reading it.
Please be advised as this book does contain sexual and physical violence.
WOW! THIS SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT READ. I need to get to reading this one!!!
Loved your review. I have added Here’s to Falling to my TBR.
