Angsts abound in Broken Juliet by Leisa Rayven !  This is book two in the Starcrossed Series, the first book being Bad Romeo.  I am going to give you the book in a nutshell review. The premise is about change and what a person is willing to do in order to have a full life with the one they love.  What motivates someone to change, both emotionally, mentally and physically.  With the correct set of circumstances a person can evolve into the person they were meant to be.  Plus, as the old saying goes, the heart wants what the heart wants.

People throughout the ages, have pointed out that human nature and people don’t change, we are a constant; and a leopard can’t change their spots.  Rayven goes about writing a new adult contemporary romance, that proves that people can and will change for that one emotion like not other, that emotion being love.  What is love worth to the soul, to ones life, does love change us for the better; if we truly give over completely to it?  Taking that leap of faith and trust can be extremely difficult, and it is for both Cassie and Ethan.  Trust once broken is hard to repair, as being betrayed in any way especially by the heart can tear a whole in ones soul that is hard to fill, but not impossible.   Change is never easy, and neither is the angst filled tale of Cassie and Ethan.  This isn’t a fairy tale, it isn’t a easy, let’s hold hands in the part; and recite sonnets type of romance.  Those type of romances don’t pull out all the anxiety that change brings.  Growing as a person doesn’t happen over night and it doesn’t happen, without bumps along the road.  Broken Juliet is just as messy as the romance of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, as that tale was filled with a hell of a lot of ANGST, yes shouty capitals.  Some characters just seem to feel more in books that others, and both for good and bad Cassie and Ethan fire up the pages of Broken Juliet with emotions, that rival their literary counterparts. When I first read Romeo and Juliet, I was emotionally exhausted, by two characters that would do anything for love, and I am just as emotionally spent after finishing Broken Juliet.  Some characters live brighter, stronger and in technicolor; and those are the ones we remember; both Cassie and Ethan, live large in this story about love, and change.

BTW this did not influence the reading to the book, but the covers are beautiful.

Note: This book did start as Twilight Fan Fiction.  This neither influenced my book recommendation.  As honestly most Twilight Fan Fiction, does not resemble in any way the original product.

About Leisa Rayven

Writing has always been a passion for Leisa, and even though she originally intended to be an actress, it wasn’t long into her time at drama school that she began writing plays.

Those plays were bad. Very bad. Well, her friends thought they were good, but that’s because they were always cast in them and any opportunity to be on stage was met with an obnoxious amount of enthusiasm.

Since then, she’s honed her craft, and several of her plays have been produced and toured
throughout Australia.

These days, playwriting has given way to fiction writing, and Leisa’s debut novel, BAD ROMEO, will be available in a worldwide release through Macmillan Publishing in December 2014.

Leisa lives in Australia with her husband, two little boys, three cats, and a kangaroo named Howard.

(Howard may or may not be her imaginary marsupial friend. Everyone should have one.)

Just read Bad Romeo recently. Loved it. The tortured male character was fantastic. The idea that he has worked so hard to overcome everything for her is great.

I’ve heard nothing but great things about Bad Romeo, and I’m already seeing lots of 5-star reviews for Broken Juliet, too. I didn’t realize it started as fan-fiction, but I’m such a big Twilight fan, I wouldn’t even mind if I *did* see similarities. Thanks for the great chance to win these!

PS: I love those covers, too!!

I read the first book and can’t wait to read the second. I loved twilight and when I found out this was originally a twilight fan fiction, I was ecstatic! It was the reason I read the first book. But that being said, the story id nothing like twilight. I was pleasantly surprised and added this author to my favorites list! Thanks for the chance to win!

  4. I read this as a twilight fanfiction and it was always my top favorite. It had so much chemistry. Sadly I haven’t gotten the chance to read this new version but I really, really want too. I just have to mange to get my hands on these beautiful books. The covers are gorgeous. Leisa has always been a sweetheart and I’m very happy for her success. Thank you so much for the wonderful giveaway.

I’m a huge Leisa Rayven fan. Bad Romeo was one of my top reads last year which instantly made Broken Juliet as one of my most anticipated books this year. Ethan Holt is just so bbf material that I can’t resist him (even if he had a lot of a-hole moments). Also, Bad Romeo and Broken Juliet are definitely on my must-own-a-physical-copy list. X
