In the new novel by the #1 New York Times bestselling “queen of paranormal romance,” (J.R. Ward) a wounded warrior and a woman on the run find salvation, passion and unimaginable danger in the ghostly darkness of the Carpathian Mountains… He wasn’t civilized or tame. He had his own code and he lived by it.
Monk. Bounty hunter. Vampire slayer. Andre Boroi has spent centuries battling the undead, holding out against the dark with honor. But now, gravely wounded by master vampire Costin Popescu, Andre will be easy to track—his spilled blood marking the killing trail for Popescu and his hungry band of underlings. Andre’s only chance is to disappear into the gray mist of the Carpathians. To wait. To hope. She had a healing touch and a scent that was his lifeblood. In the mountains in search of a precious crystal, geologist Teagan Joanes suddenly finds herself hunted by those she once trusted. Then she comes across the warrior—wounded, wanting and irresistible. Andre has been craving her for an eternity: his lifemate. Her warmth envelops him. Her scent pulsates. And with every beat of her heart, Teagan surrenders to a passion she can’t possibly comprehend. Now they are bound by destiny, but is it enough to keep them safe from a stalking, relentless darkness that threatens to swallow them alive?

Karen’s Review

The Carpathian series premise is simple; Carpathians are like vampires since they drink blood but they are not evil. They lose their emotions and their ability to see in color over time. Life sucks and they can only be saved by a life mate — a psychic woman. Vampires drink blood but they are evil.  They can be killed if you rip out their hearts and burn them. Vampire hunters kill both. They don’t discriminate between supernaturals. If you aren’t human. . . you’re dead!

In Dark Ghost, a virgin geologist goes to the Carpathian Mountains to find a rock or gem or crystal that will cure her loony tunes Gram who believes that a man named Gary needs killing since he betrayed the human race. Cali girl Teagan, the virgin geologist, has her friend from college be her mountain guide. Armand, her college friend and mountain guide, is actually a serial rapist/killer. He and his childhood buddies rape and kill unsuspecting female tourists.  Fun times! This is a bad Eastern European Vacation horror movie since the local guys in these books are always rapists or killers or, in this case, both.

Teagan meets a GORGEOUS stranger in a cave! His name is Andre.  She is drawn to him.  Not real dialogue below but you’ll get the point. . .

You’re so gorgeous.

I’m not the type of girl to throw myself at a man, a stranger. Kiss. Kiss.

No! What is happening to me?

Yikes! On and on for 40% of the book! “I am not like this.  This can’t be real.”  Please save me from Carpathian Vampire hell!  Teagan’s name, when spoken by Andre, has power.  Ummm…80% of the novel is in the cave or around it. Teagan was hilarious, but the broody Carpathian, “you are my life mate blah, blah”, got old fast.  To be fair, the last quarter of the book did pick up.

Dark Ghost can be read as a standalone. . .there is not a major series arc involved in this book. If you have read one Carpathian novel, you have read them all which may be a horrid blanket statement but this is how I felt.  Dedicated Feehan readers — you’ll love this book, and you will make it a bestseller.  If you aren’t a die-hard Feehan reader — it is a pass. This series really needs to come to an end.
