Exclusive teaser from The Healers
I peeked out the side window and just as he said, there were two police officers and Alexander. I walked over to the door with my gun still in hand. That’s when I remembered to disengage the alarm. A question popped out of my thoughts again. Why didn’t the alarm go off? Not that it had helped much in this situation. I felt relief at seeing the police and began to open the door. My eyes immediately went to Alexander.
Tall, dark and handsome. Oh lord…Is this really what I succumbed to? He was wearing long pants that looked like loungewear and a white tee shirt. And that incredible buzz I had gotten the first time I saw him seemed to kick into full effect again. Great to know it was him that caused my insides to flutter. His eyes seemed to look me over in a protective way. I didn’t need his protection and I stood a little taller to exert my independence. Well, that was the impression I tried to give. I did feel a little overwhelmed as I stared into those deep and dark dravite shaded tourmaline eyes of his. So overwhelmed, in fact, that I started to feel little prickles in my chest and noticed that my emotions were promptly being displayed since I lacked a bra.
Nice. It did not go without notice either as all the men’s eyes looked up into my face. I felt the color rise in my cheeks and then one of the officers spoke. Or rather shouted, “Drop the weapon!” as he pointed his gun at me. What? Oh, right. There was a gun in my hand.
5 Reasons You Have to Read The Healers
- Leo…”Yes. Of course. I would give you anything. Don’t you know that already?”
- Alexander… Rough, man words in my ear, “Delicious.” He inhaled deeply. “Definitely lickable.”
- Scyrus…“I’m pretty sure you’re good for a little hole in the wall west Texas bar.” A giant smile spread across her face. For some reason, I knew I was really going to like this girl.
- Layna…bad ass healer…“You see this, Layna. I’m going to savor every part of you with it.” I seriously doubted that when it didn’t look bigger than my pinky finger at full staff.
- It was hard and heavy in my hand. Excitement licked up and down my spine as I rubbed my fingers over. This was what I had been missing. The power of a girl and her gun.
Cheers! I’m a red headed Texan gal that writes adult romance novels. After spending way too much money on attaining degrees in education (bachelors, masters, no ph.D yet), I realized that I loved teaching, but, I needed to write. Somehow, I have struck a chaotic balance. Teacher by day, steamy romance writer by night….. I daydream a lot, drink wine, gossip about juicy plots with my friends and obsessively read. Check my blog for my latest favorite reads, what I’m writing, and other crazy things I encounter. My debut novel, THE HEALERS, will be available April 2013.
5 Fun Facts About Lynsie Buchanan
- I was born on a Caribbean island…no wonder I’m late everywhere and I think drinking is an activity.
- None of my close friends were surprised that I like to write sex scenes. I guess I must have some kinda smut sign on my forehead.
- I was a first grade teacher before I started writing…it’s always the innocent ones
- Sometimes…I walk around the kitchen in high heels while I’m cooking dinner. I really love to pretend I’m tall.
- Having a clean mouth is a high priority to me. My college roommate used to tease me because I always came home for my toothbrush before shacking up.

As Kyler and Haley’s physical attraction becomes deeper, the secrets of the past threaten to surface. When Haley’s past collides with the present, will her secrets prove too big of an obstacle hindering their happily ever after, or will letting go be the key that locks their bond forever?
~ Review ~
If you liked Thoughtless and The Edge of Never (two of my favorite reads), I have no doubt that you will like this book too!
The Upside of Letting Go is one of those books which truly exceeded my expectations more than I could have ever imagined. The book, deemed New Adult, had a cover photo of a young man pushing young woman on a swing, and it just didn’t draw me in or “intrigue” me. However, since the time this book originally showed up on Goodreads, the cover photo was updated.
After reading the book, I still don’t feel that the cover does the book justice, but I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to read this book. Otherwise, I think, NO, I KNOW, I would have easily overlooked it and would have missed a well-written storyline with relatable and developed characters who took me on one heck of a ride filled with a mix of emotions.
With a duffel bag hung over her shoulder, Haley Martin boarded a Greyhound bus in New Jersey, leaving behind a past filled with heartbreak and misery, in hopes of starting a new life in a new college town over 500 miles away. It is in Alabama where she meets Kyler King, a beautiful young man with a tragic past as well, who has no interest in settling down with anyone.
“I’m standing face to face with the blue-eyed God from the admin office I saw earlier today. Once again I’m speechless. Our eyes lock, and I feel something I haven’t felt in a very long time: lust.”
Haley and Kyler start spending more and more time together since their respective roommates are dating. But they reach a mutual agreement that they are just going to be friends with some occasional benefits. Neither one of them is ready for the honesty and commitment of a relationship nor are they ready to talk about the defining moments in their lives…the moments which are responsible for building the retaining walls that have protected their hearts…the moments which led to Kyler permanently sleeping with the light on. (Oh, and let me tell you, when you read those “benefit” scenes, you won’t be disappointed!)
“I feel his eyes gaze over my towel-covered body in a hungry way that should make me feel violated but only turns me on. In this moment I don’t care about anything else except filling this void in my heart, and with Kyler looking at me like he wants to accomplish the same goal, I know what’s about to happen.”
With an understanding and strong connection due to those defining moments, their friendship blossoms into true love. Sometimes we can’t understand what another person has been through unless we have lived it ourselves. Haley and Kyler have that understanding.
“Two can play this game, and I don’t think he knows he is playing with fire. I’ve gotten pretty good at loving and leaving, so if this is what his cold shoulder is about, then tonight I’d be more than happy to give him a whirl and send him on his merry way. I know I’m supposed to steer clear of him, and Lord knows I do not need a relationship of any kind, but sex is just sex, right? He is gorgeous, and it’s hard not to appreciate beauty when you keep running into it head on.”
Unfortunately, an integral piece of Haley’s past shows up in her present and threatens to change her new life, the new Haley, and the relationship which she and Kyler have fought so hard to hang onto.
And it was at the end of this book that I truly felt that cover did not do the book justice. In my mind (and before I knew who the inspirations were behind the characters), I knew Haley was absolutely beautiful. Although the cover of the book shows a broken girl, a motorcycle, and darkness, there is also so much light in this book.
Yes, drama and some angst take place, which would explain why I literally went through an entire bag of Hershey Kisses with Almonds. At one point, I wanted to stop reading. I didn’t want my bubble to burst. I smiled, I gasped, I cried, and I screamed “what the hell?” on more than one occasion. Yes, I literally had emotional whiplash from the characters as well as the storyline that completely sucked me in and made me feel like these people were my personal friends.
Without a doubt, The Upside of Letting Go was a 5 star read for me, and I am so thankful that this book literally landed in my lap! Great job Nacole Stayton, and I eagerly await your next book with anticipation! You should be very proud of your debut novel.

Blog Tour: Hell’s Hollow by Summer Stone
Title: Hell’s Hollow
Author: Summer Stone
Genre: Young Adult/Paranormal
When Seraphina was younger, she healed her best friend’s injured hand. Terrified by the inexplicable cure, the girl shunned her. From that day on, Seraphina found herself without friends, a freak and an oddity. And so she obeyed her mother’s rule to refrain from using her innate ability, heeded her mother’s warning that its use could land her in the local mental health facility alongside her aunt and grandmother.
But when sixteen-year-old Seraphina finds a mysterious, wounded boy hiding in the hollow in the woods behind her house, she can’t hold out against the overpowering urge to help him. She is drawn to him each night, and as they come to know one another, their irresistible attraction blooms.
She longs to uncover his secrets — where he comes from and why he’s hiding and how he came to be so wounded — and to share her own, though she knows it’s forbidden. And while her healing touch seems to be helping him, it’s hurting her. When the symptoms of psychosis — experienced by the women in her bloodline who used their powers — begin to plague Seraphina, she is faced with the unbearable choice of saving her sanity or the boy she’s come to love.
Excerpt from Hell’s Hollow by Summer Stone
Excerpt 1:
“I should go,” he said.
“Why?” I asked. “No one’s even awake.”
“You are,” he said. “And… you should stay away. This is a bad idea.” The worry in his face lit up in the moonlight.
“Don’t be afraid of me,” I said.
“Not of you,” he said, shaking his head, “for you.” And then he backed away.
“Don’t run,” I begged. My mind raced, wondering if somehow he knew about the pull to heal and how dangerous it could be for me to give in to it. “I won’t do anything, I promise.”
“What do you mean?” he asked, looking confused.
I caught myself. “What did you mean — when you said you were afraid for me?”
He looked away. “I’m not someone you should be around.”
“Yeah, you are,” I said softly, wondering if he was really other than what he seemed, and then wondering, too, if he might be a sign of a psychotic break, a figment of my imagination.
“I’m evil,” he said, “like prince of darkness kind of stuff. You should stay away. And… I shouldn’t be here.” He stood to go.
I shivered. “I don’t understand,” I said, moving closer to him even though it made my whole body hurt. “Why shouldn’t you be here? How could you be evil?” My mind started imagining all sorts of horrible things he might have done. I knew nothing about him. He could be the axe murderer for all I knew.
“I never should’ve talked to you,” he said.
“You’re not making any sense,” I said. “Won’t you come back and hang out again?”
“Just… forget you ever met me,” he replied. And then he loped off through the woods.

Blog Tour: LOVE’S FORBIDDEN FLOWER by Diane Rinella ~ Author Interview & Giveaway
About the Author: Enjoying San Francisco as a backdrop, the ghosts in Diane’s 150-year old Victorian home augment the chorus in her head. With insomnia as their catalyst, these voices have become multifarious characters that haunt her well into the sun’s crowning hours, refusing to let go until they have manipulated her into succumbing to their whims. Her experiences as an actress, business owner, artisan cake designer, software project manager, Internet radio disc jockey, vintage rock n’ roll journalist/fan girl, and lover of dark and quirky personalities influence her idiosyncratic writing.
She is currently completing the sequel to Love’s Forbidden Flower.

~ Author Interview ~
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m an insomniac who lives in a Civil War era Victorian near San Francisco. I love to act and have spent years studying the craft. I’m also a vintage rock fangirl who shows off her autographs with pride.
If your book were made into a movie, who do you picture playing each characters part?
Honestly, I would choose all unknowns. Lily and Donovan have a unique situation, and I would want the audience to feel the experience as genuinely as possible. If the audience is seeing the actor and thinking of other things he or she has done, they lose out on the experience.
Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?
The story is original, yet the situations in it happen all the time in real life. 10 to 15% of college age adults have had an experience with a sibling. Quite a few are willing to share their journey. I’ve heard some lovely stories.
Lily’s passion for baking and advanced culinary skills at a young age stem from my personal experiences.
Is there a message in your novels that you want readers to walk away with? If so, what is it?
I hope people will walk away seeing the world through new eyes. I’m not trying to sell anyone on anything. However, far too often we look at situations as black or white, and we do that because we are told to. If readers question their beliefs, regardless of if they change, I’ve done something extraordinary. There are amazing stories out there, including that of a German couple where the man has served jail time for their relationship, yet they refuse to part. How strong is a love where the people involved are locked up for it, only to be released from jail and return to the same situation, knowing they will wind up behind bars again?
Some authors listen to music while writing, others prefer a quiet space. Which is your preference? If you do listen to music, do you have a playlist? Care to share?
It depends on my mood and what I am writing. One of the character’s in the book, Christopher, is very much like the people who raised and influenced him musically. He is actually an amalgamation of many 60’s British rock stars. I listened to a lot of Hollies and Small Faces when I wrote his scenes.
Give us the 140 character TWEET description of your book.
Love’s Forbidden Flower is a dark human rights piece disguised as a witty romance novel.
6 Smooch Database
If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?
Dear Lord, Not Her Again!
Is sexy a tight dress or t-shirt and jeans?
Sexy tight dress.
Favorite sandwich?
Caprese Panini
Do you believe in love at first sight?
Yes, I’m certain that is happens all the time.
Favorite Actor?
Ian Somerhalder — and it has nothing to do with his good looks. His work is fantastic.

As Lily embarks on a quest for the romance the heavens intended, her suitor turns reluctant. Desperate to uncover why Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hiding decayed from a tender-hearted gentleman into a ferociously self-serving, cocky bastard, Lily is prepared for battle when it comes to the salvation of her soul mate. When Lily’s revelations about Donovan’s destructive alter ego lead to an unconceivable truth, can she help Donovan survive fate’s cruel joke?

Blog Tour & Giveaway ~ 10 Things I Love About BENT Cast
10 Things I Love About the Bent Cast (two at a time)
~ Julia ~
- She doesn’t roll over and let love dictate her life. A lot of people have commented about her being a runner, but I’m not sure I totally agree with that. She didn’t just run because she was scared. She ran because she had a plan for her life, she was sick of living for others, and wasn’t willing to throw that away.
- She learned to forgive. Having your heart ripped out sucks, no two ways about it. Yes, Julia had a perfectly justified reason to never forgive Micah, but she was able to look at it and forgive him for being a stupid, immature kid. Too quickly? Maybe. But there’s a draw to first love that can’t be denied.
~ Micah ~
- He’s lived with his decisions. He screwed up plenty when he was a teenager. He slept around, he lied about it and he broke his high school sweetheart’s heart. And every day since then, he’s lived with his choices. He hasn’t allowed that to break him and works to fix it when he’s given the chance.
- He’s a good dad. It would have been easy to write him as a disconnected, absent parent. After all, Caleb wasn’t planned and his conception wound up screwing up a good thing for Micah and Julia. But he stuck by, right or wrong, to raise his son and he’s an active parent trying to keep Caleb from making the same mistakes.
~ Caleb ~
- He’s real to me. When I was writing, there were times I would call a friend of mine who has a son Caleb’s age (and you’ll hear more about this “friend” in another blog post soon) to see how he would have reacted to certain situations. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t writing Caleb as an accessory character.
- He speaks his mind. Like so many kids, he has no filter on his words. This created tension between him and his dad and a great bond between him and Julia.
~ Annie ~
- She’s blunt. Now that Julia’s home, she has no problem telling her how it is. Having friends who are always in your corner is one thing, but having a friend who will smack you when you screw up is priceless.
- She’s stuck in the middle. Having grown up in a small town, nothing is every black and white. She finds herself stuck between her childhood BFF (who’s been gone for over a decade) and her friend’s ex, who has been in town the whole time.
~ Adam ~
- He’s a protective brother. Now that she’s back, Adam is trying to make sure Julia is safe; emotionally as well as physically. That means his loyalties are tested because he’s gotten close to Micah in the time that Julia has been gone.
- He wants everyone to be happy. You’ll learn more about this side of his personality in Breaking the Rules (early summer release) but Adam works to make sure the ladies in his life are content, even when it means he’s frustrated.
Synopsis
If there’s one thing Julia Wilson has learned in life, it’s that you can’t push your own dreams to the background for anyone. Newly divorced, Julia returns to the hometown she once swore would never see her again. Her plan is simple; enjoy the cheap rent her friend is offering and stay just long enough to develop a plan to make her own dreams come true.
It doesn’t take long before Julia realizes she’s made a big mistake.
Micah Anderson came closer to breaking Julia than anyone else ever had. After promising her forever, he broke her heart the week before she left for college. Now, Julia’s back in town and he’s going to have to tell her the truth about why he left her. It’s not possible to hide a twelve year old child when you live in a town of 5,000 people.
Is following your dreams worth it if it means giving up on a second chance with her first love? Is trying to make a relationship work worth it if his past becomes a threat to her safety?
