~Karen’s Review~
What I love about M.Leighton? She guarantees me a Happily Ever After, in each of her books. Sometimes I wish I didn’t know that, as this book would have had me on the edge of my seat more; if the possibility for everything not to turn out well in the end was there. Then again I wouldn’t love M.Leighton the way that I do, if she ripped out my heart. So it is a horrid double edged sword that I must bear. I also love that M.Leighton sex scenes are some of the best written in romance genre. Each glance, kiss, touch and thrust had my heart pounding like I had just run a marathon. M.Leighton also writes intriguing characters. Her characters are complex and are so vivid, that I fall in love with the heroes and put myself into the place of each heroine. All The Pretty Lies is a fabulous M.Leighton book.
Why did this book almost rip out my heart? All The Pretty Lies is about secret’s and deceit, and what price the characters are willing to pay to keep their secrets. Both the characters Sloan (heroine) and Hemi (hero) have secrets. These are not little secrets, they are secrets that will devastate each other. Sloan’s secret is more personal, and I can see why she keeps it. Hemi’s secret is also personal, and his motive behind his is written in his blood. Neither of these characters are willing to tell the other their secret. Hemi’s secret is the bigger of the two, and the one that has potential to ruin the life Sloan lives. Sloan’s secret has the potential to devastate and rip Hemi’s soul from him. So will the secrets devastate these two people or united them? Guess what you have to read the book.
What I like about Sloan, is that she a take no prisoners type of girl. She has decided to live fiercely. Sloan is ready to spread her wings and fly; no more ‘ivory tower’ for this princess. If she plummets to the ground or soars that is Sloan’s decision, because it is her life. Now she only has to get her family to get with the Sloan is an adult program, this will be easier said than done.
Hemi is living a brand new life, one of a conscious choice. This choice he has made to reinvent himself is one that is tied to his secret. This is a character who has made a ton of mistakes in his past. His mistakes are huge, they haunt him, and forever changed him. He is now trying to make amends in his own way for his past mistakes. Hemi, is sexy, and extremely likable.
The book is written in first person and with dual point of views, so I understood both characters and the whys for what they have done. I did figure out Sloan’s secret from the very beginning, but it wasn’t from M.Leighton’s portrayal, just my own life experiences kinda made me think in that direction.
Overall this was a fun read from M.Leighton. The end of the book alluded to this being a series and I will assume that both Sloan’s and Hemi’s families will be included in the sequels. As Sloan’s and Hemi’s story was wrapped up nicely at the end of this book.
Thank you for reading and reviewing, Karen! I genuinely appreciate it.
