On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast. But Dina is...different: Her broom is a deadly weapon; her Inn is magic and thinks for itself. Meant to be a lodging for otherworldly visitors, the only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can’t leave the grounds because she’s responsible for the deaths of millions and someone might shoot her on sight. Under the circumstances, "normal" is a bit of a stretch for Dina.

And now, something with wicked claws and deepwater teeth has begun to hunt at night....Feeling responsible for her neighbors, Dina decides to get involved. Before long, she has to juggle dealing with the annoyingly attractive, ex-military, new neighbor, Sean Evans—an alpha-strain werewolf—and the equally arresting cosmic vampire soldier, Arland, while trying to keep her inn and its guests safe. But the enemy she’s facing is unlike anything she’s ever encountered before. It’s smart, vicious, and lethal, and putting herself between this creature and her neighbors might just cost her everything.

Karen’s Review

Wow, Iona Andrews does it again with their newest paranormal & urban fantasy book.  Andrews is in top form in their newest venture into the realm of magic, fantasy, and science fiction, Clean Sweep.  They seamlessly have thrown all the genres into a blender of brilliance and have come up with a fabulous new series that revolves around Dina Demille, the unassuming innkeeper at a bread and breakfast in Red Deer TX.

Her huge victorian house sits at the mouth of a subdivision, and all is not right in the world of Camelot Acres house development. Dogs are coming up dead.  Not hit by the side of the road type dead, but mauled with the soft bites chew on type of dead.  (Yummy, hope you already ate breakfast.)  Dead dogs in her neighborhood does not sit right with Dina, and she tells the uber alpha that recently moved in Sean Evans to do something about it.  He looks at her like she is crazy.  Well Dina isn’t crazy, she just knows what lays beneath our mundane world.  Add to the mix a sentient magical house(Gertrude Hunt), yes the inn has a name, a sexy alpha male werewolf, alien vampire(yes he’s sexy too), a mysterious guest at the inn, an otherworldly assassin and his creatures, shake vigorously and you get one hell of a paranormal/urban fantasy thrill ride.  The type where you have to old onto your ass so you don’t lose it.

Plus the dialogue by Andrews is fun and it always rings true, and in Clean Sweep the one liners between the werewolf and the vampire are priceless.   I can’t wait for the second book in the series.  As team Andrews has more than sparked my interested in this new world they have constructed.

On another note, I should reveal that I own an alien Shih Tzu Chi. The Andrews’ have revealed their existence in this book.  Yes they are vicious when their territory is threatened.  I have known for years that my Shih Tzu is an alien, and have stated it so far and wide.  Thank you to the Andrews’s for identifying  the actual breed of  my alien pooch  I owe both Gordon and Ilona a debt of gratitude for uncovering the mysterious origins of my vicious attack Shih Tzu.

About Ilona Andrews

Ilona Andrews is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. author2sm“Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Oregon with their two children, three dogs and a cat. They have co-authored two series, the bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and romantic urban fantasy of The Edge.
