It was only one night, but it changed everything.

Yesi Thoughts

This book completely took my by surprise and in the best possible way. Never in a million years did I imagine the I would fall so hard for Ben Covington because quite honestly, right up until I read Blurred, I strongly disliked him. I hated what he did to Dahlia when they were young and later in life, I hated that when he returned he tried to stand between her and River, and mainly, I just didn’t care for him. So now, for me to say that next to River he is my absolute favorite male character in The Connections series says quite a bit. Not only about him, but about how great a storyteller Kim Karr really is. The Connections series has been fantastic from the very first book, the novellas that followed, and now Frayed. With each new book we get to know the characters we love in a deeper way and I have truly enjoyed it. With Frayed, I felt every emotion, every ounce of pain, every heartbreak, and every piece of joy. It is a story of not only second chances, but of perseverance, and a love that was meant to be no matter what life threw its way.

“Thinking past wrongs and forbidden fruit-none of that matters when I remember the night we shared.”

Despite everything that Ben has dealt with in life, what obstacles he faced, what heartbreak he experienced, what despair he has felt, there was one explosive night that he has never forgotten. There is one woman that had the ability to make him risk everything for that one night. Her name is Bell Wilde and she is now back in his life. Ben has experienced rock bottom and self-loathing, he has had a tough time dealing with what his life turned into when he returned and in Blurred we were able to get a closer look at that. Now, his life is back on track and he seems to keep running into the one woman that turned his world upside down and slowly he starts to realize that there was a reason he never forgot her.

“What I feel when I look at her winds me. It’s more than just lust and desire-it’s a need to make her part of me.”

Their connection is evident with each conversation and each interaction they have. Bell has never been able to forget him either but that doesn’t mean she wants to be with him. There are just too many factors that she feels they can’t overcome and as much as her heart wants him, she just doesn’t want to give in to him. Ben makes the decision that he doesn’t care about what others may think and starts weaving himself into her life. He makes it almost impossible for her not to want him just as bad. He is sexy and charming, funny and caring, and has truly come a long way to finally make the decision that he deserves happiness too, that they both do. And that happiness means having Bell in his life. Their journey to each other is a rough one and Bell does have a life-altering secret that can change the way Ben sees her. So the question is… Can they overcome all of that and give into the strong pull they have always felt towards each other?

“Something about him makes me want to give myself over to him in any way he wants. I want to be anything he desires, everything he needs-I want to be his dream girl.”

Frayed is one of those books that I was reluctant to read but am overwhelmingly happy that I did. Kim Karr gives us one of the best second chance stories out there. Bell and Ben deserved to have their story told and they deserved this epic love. I remember my first thoughts when I finished and they stand true today… Everyone deserves a second chance. Ben Covington snuck in and completely stole my heart. He absolutely did and this story not only surprised me, but made me a firm believer in redemption and true love.

“For a minute I can’t help thinking about how damn lucky I am to have gotten a second chance at life. I was a dead man, a man who then lost sight of what mattered and then fell over the edge. But somehow after everything I went through, I was tugged back up by life and able to land on my feet.”
