Summary:

Cunning. Sex. Pure nerve. Only this potent threesome can raise him to his rightful place as ruler of Manhattan’s kink kingdom.

Bouncing from bed to bed on the Upper East Side—handsomely paid in both bills and blackmail fodder—Kingsley Edge is brilliant, beautiful and utterly debauched. No carnal act or chemical compound can relieve his self-destructive apathy—only Søren, the one person he loves without limit or regret. A man he can never have, but in whose hands Kingsley is reborn to attain even greater heights of sin. He plans to open the ultimate BDSM club: a dungeon playground for New York’s A-list that’ll change the scene forever.

The club becomes Kingsley’s obsession—and he’s enlisted some tough-as-nails help. His new assistant Sam is smart, secretive and totally immune to seduction (by men, at least). She and Kingsley make a wicked team. Still, their combined—and considerable—expertise in domination can’t subdue the man who would kill their dream. The enigmatic Reverend Fuller won’t rest until King’s dream is destroyed. It’s one man’s sacred mission against another’s….

Robbie’s Review:

The King is the book I’ve been waiting to read since I bonded with Kingsley Edge in The Prince.  Author Tiffany Reisz has at long last written the story of how a boy named Kingsley Boissonneault becomes Kingsley Edge, The King of Manhattan. Shaken by the tragic death of Kingsley’s sister and Soren’s wife Marie Laure, Søren leaves for Europe where he becomes a priest and Kingsley leaves to enlist in the French Foreign Legion.  I have to admit I was anticipating reading more about Kingsley’s years apart from Søren, but in response to a recent question, the author explained it.

Question: Kingsley’s time spent with the French Foreign Legion has had a huge impact on the man he’s become. Will we learn anymore about that time in his life?

The Author: I have no plans on writing about that time in his life in detail. I prefer writing about my Sinners when they’re all together. They’re at their best when the three of them—Nora, Søren, and Kingsley—are in close proximity to each other.

Regardless, the story line doesn’t disappoint and is filled with enough intrigue, spying, backroom deals and, of course, extraordinary sexy times to be worthy of any story about one of the Original Sinners.  Having grown used to older versions of Kingsley and Søren, I had to remind myself at times that these two are not even 30 years old in The King. The author has effectively captured the correct tone for this book.  Kingsley and Søren may sound youthful, immature and playful at times, but they never sound young.  Kingsley is a man who has a rapacious appetite for all things kinky and with the power of money Søren puts at his disposal, he lacks for nothing except the one thing he most desires.  Leading a life of frenzied dissipation, he is slowly destroying himself until the person whose love has made him the man he is, challenges him to create a safe world for people whose sexual interests have made them unacceptable to many and the particular focus of a religious group determined to shove them all into their own rigid mold.

Once upon a time, he’d made Søren a promise.  He’s made a promise and now he would keep it.  He saw it before him, and it seemed so real he could touch it, feel it.  He saw a building, old, Gothic, crumbling, like he was – awaiting rebirth.  And people filed into it, people with secrets.  They needed him, needed his protection, needed his knowledge.  They needed to kneel.  They needed a king.  He heard their cries of ecstasy, saw their hunger and devotion.  He would take them all and give them to one more worth.

And he’d never seen anything more beautiful in his life.

A promise made long ago… A promise he would keep.

A king must have a kingdom after all.

The King is written with the same flawless style and attention to detail we’ve come to expect from Tiffany Reisz and this series. The imagery, the symbolism and the wit make The King a book to read again and again because there is always something new to discover. There are multiple happy endings (and multiple orgasms!!) along with a cliff hanger that will have you primed for more from Mistress Nora.  Although The Saint still remains my favorite in the series, The King is very special to me because I’ve never made it a secret that I’m in love with Kingsley Edge.  He is not your usual book boyfriend.   Tiffany Reisz created him beautiful, but scarred; kinky, but honorable; scary, but infinitely lovable. I never see a Rolls Royce without thinking of him and smiling, and…no spoilers, but I have to say Kingsley is hot even in drag…

Readers…you will be totally lost and deprive yourselves of immense pleasure if you don’t read the earlier books in the series and in order: The Siren, The Angel, The Prince, The Mistress, The Saint.  Also treat yourselves to the novellas the author has written about her characters like sweet little gifts to keep her readers happy between books!
