Sometimes love can start with a little hate.

When Sky Hudson first has a run-in with tall, dark, and handsome Nicholas Ruggarson, she wants nothing more than to throw her coffee at him. He is rude and arrogant, and she is glad she never has to set eyes on him ever again.

Or so she thinks.

It turns out, not only does she have to see Nick again, she also has to live with him. Hired as the new nanny to work for Nick’s affluent family, she can’t seem to get away from the womanizing jerk.

With a hot and cold relationship, and an undeniable attraction between them, Sky might finally be the woman to break through Nick’s arrogance and discover that there is more to him than she ever imagined.

If she doesn’t kill him first.

~Michelle’s Review ~

Don’t let the title of this book fool you. It’s not what it means, and for that, I think I loved this book even more.

Beneath Him is told from alternating points of view of the two main characters: Sky and Nicholas (aka Nick). Sky is a strong, independent young woman who doesn’t take shit from anyone. Many people, including Nick, think money gives them the distinct privilege to be rude and condescending and think their time is more valuable than the rest. But Sky is quick to put Nick in his place during a chance meeting, leaving him shocked but turned on and very intrigued! Of course, you get to see Nick and Sky interact throughout the rest of the book and watch their relationship grow and change as Sky was hired as a nanny to work for Nick’s parents.

“I was like stone—strong, resilient, unwavering. He was the wind—wild, harsh, unpredictable. He had the power to wear me down, slowly yet surely. And finally he had worn me down.”

There were some blatant grammatical errors throughout the book which need to be cleaned up, but this did not take away from enjoying the book. I would have liked to have had more background on Sky’s relationship with her mom before she died and how it affected Sky personally. I think that relationship was important to the overall book, especially towards the end of the book when we find out the family secret. (I can’t say anymore or it will ruin the plot.)

I’ve seen some people complain that they figured out what the family secret was early on in the book, and I did too. But again, that did not take away from my enjoyment of the book. If it were a mystery book, that would be a different story.  Nick talks about work once and then it seemed like he never worked again, so I was scratching my head at this as well.

But I really enjoyed the writing style and the flow of the book. One thing that stands out in my mind is the night that Nick and Sky were going to go out to dinner, but Sky wanted something easy and simple and not fancy. Eventually that “special something” that they shared that night became “their thing,” and I loved it! It made me like Nick even more. Haha.

Beneath Him is a sweet romance which didn’t have tons and tons of sex in it, and I really enjoyed that. (Yes, Michelle, the one who is known for the EckFactor, is getting tired of all the sex.) And the more I thought about this book, the more I truly liked it.

“He pulled me to his chest, and when he kissed me, gravity ceased to exist. The sensation was like floating on air as the world erupted into chaos around us. But he was my anchor, pulling me back to earth—he was my home.”

Fortunately, this is a stand-alone novel, and it’s a quick read too. I look forward to reading more books from this author.
