When a handsome, charming teenager named Noah (Ryan Guzman) moves in next door, newly separated high-school teacher Claire Peterson (Jennifer Lopez) encourages his friendship and engages in a little bit of harmless -- or so she thinks -- flirtation. Although Noah spends much of the time hanging out with Claire's son, the teen's attraction to her is palpable. One night, Claire gives in to temptation and lets Noah seduce her -- but when she tries to end the relationship, he turns violent.
I remember seeing the movie trailer for The Boy Next Door starring Jennifer Lopez and immediately thought, “I want to see that movie.” Honestly, it reminded me of some of the books we’ve read or promoted here on the blog (like You, The Keeper, Verum). Plus I think Lopez is absolutely beautiful and so talented, and the movie looked hot (well, at least the trailer did)–as well as Lopez’s co-star Ryan Guzman (Noah).
In addition to acting, Guzman is best known as a Calvin Klein model. He appeared in two of the Step Up movies in addition to numerous other films. (This is where Google becomes your BFF!) For me, Guzman is known as known as my #1 book boyfriend, Kellan Kyle. But, I didn’t realize this until I Googled his name and found this picture. Sigh. (If you search our site, you’ll find numerous posts about Kellan Kyle.)
In the movie Noah, a senior in high school, moves into his ailing uncle’s home and is immediately drawn to Claire Peterson (Lopez), a newly separated high school teacher. After a lousy blind date, Claire is feeling lonely and vulnerable one night, and she and Noah engage in a night of passion.
The next day Claire feels extremely guilty and says it can never happen again. Oh, and by the way, Claire also has a son in high school who has become close friends with Noah. And I will just leave it at that.
So, last weekend, my 19-year-old daughter came home from college, and we decided to see this movie together, which is rated R. I have to say that I did cringe just a bit when Claire and Noah were having sex. At one point, Noah slid his hand down the front of Claire’s black, lacy panties, and the camera had to be within 10 inches of Claire’s crotch. Yes, it was that close! Like bird’s eye close!
I recall my daughter saying repeatedly how “graphic” the movie was. Haha. Glad she’s not seeing FSOG! Oh, and you do get to see Guzman’s butt TWICE! Lopez is almost 20 years older than Guzman, but she truly has a body of a women in her 20s. So this was a perfect match.
On a scale of 1 to 5, I would give this movie just barely 3 stars. Wait until you can rent it or better yet, buy the movie and you can watch Guzman over and over and over…did I mention that he is smokin’ hot? 🙂
