Pierce, can a passion that has withstood many ordeals become a love strong enough to last a lifetime?Matt Sky is trying to return to normal, having faked his death and come back to life. He and Hannah move back in together, and Matt attempts to put his demons to rest as they strive to grow their relationship into something durable and honest. But as the two become more and more entangled, and the heat between them intensifies in all the best possible ways, Matt’s desire for Hannah ignites cravings he has kept at bay for a long, long time…Hannah finally has the life she's always wanted: she's pursuing her career as a literary agent at Granite Wing Agency, she is writing her first novel, and she is living with her hot, passionate lover. But as Matt and Hannah explore a new intimacy, Hannah finds that there are parts of Matt—dark, wild, uncontrollable parts—that he has yet to show her…that he has yet to show anyone…Under the surface of Matt and Hannah’s domestic bliss, deeply buried secrets burn, and all of a sudden, the least foreseen obstacle threatens to shatter everything they’ve worked so hard for.

Review by Karen

How do I possibly write a review of After Dark by M. Pierce. I am not one of those fawning readers, that need to worship at the alter of authors. I can read and enjoy the book without having to go hunt down the author and offer a laurel to them. Then M. Pierce finishes his Night Owl Trilogy, with After Dark and I am stunned into silence. The author tore my heart out, and shattered my soul, as I read the ARC of the book.  M.Pierces books do not fit any genre or formulaic mold, and if you aren’t willing to see past your own preconceived notions of what a romance is supposed to be, then this book is not for you.  As these books are dark romances.

I honestly hate reviews that giveaway the plot of a book, as I don’t understand some bloggers/reviewers that have to rewrite the book to show you why they think you should or should not read it. I will make this very simple, read the book! Yes, the previous sentences was ended by an exclamation point, because a M. Pierce’s recommendation needs a freaking exclamation point, meaning don’t just think about buying this book, actually do it.   If you do buy this book, be prepared for your heart to be shredded also, because my heart has never bleed so much for two characters, those being Matt and Hannah. Both of these characters have taken me on an emotional roller coaster that has cumulated in After Dark. I shake my head, wondering how a man so brilliant and tortured as Matt Sky, could survive; even in a book. As some lives even fictional ones burn so utterly brilliantly and brightly that they end up consuming not just themselves, but everything around them.  Yes, fear sets in as Hannah and I struggle to understand Matt.

As a reader if you are looking for a simple read, then honestly M.Pierce books are not for you. M. Pierce’s books are not easy ‘happily ever after’ type reads, they are raw, powerful, dark, filled with monsters, love and hope. These aren’t boy meets girl and they have kinky sex type books. Yes, there is kinky hot sex, but M.Pierce’s books are so deeply layered that you might jump in for the kinky sex, but you will get swept away at the emotional journey both Hannah and Matt traverse. None of the books in the series are simple reads, and After Dark is the hardest and the most fulfilling of them all, as this last book lays bare both characters, as their journey emotionally gutted me. Matt is an all consuming tortured soul, and even as I closed the cover of the book, even I know Matt’s story will never be an easy one.  No, I didn’t agree with every plot point that M.Pierce threw at me. Yes I wanted Hannah to have grown more as a person. But,  guess what I am not the author and writing is not a community process. I read the book that M.Pierce wrote and it may not be how I thought the story would progress, but I was strapped in and ready for the ride. I just get to read and bask in  the glory at the brilliance that is M. Pierce; even if times he ripped me open and pulled out my still beating heart.

Bravo M. Pierce Bravo. Oh is that a laurel at your feet?
