Review by Karen

Waking the Dragon by Juliette Cross is book one in Vale of Stars new series by the author.   I jumped right into this book, as intrepid college reporter Moira Cade is on the trail of a killer.   The bodies are being found in Morgon territory. What you ask is a Morgon, they are a humanoid dragon descendant, so badass human that an fly. The reader is plunged into a world of morgons and humans, and how they interact or don’t interact with eachother. This is book one in a new series, but this is not the first time that the author has written about this world inhabited by morgans and humans, as her Nightwing Series. The characters from the previous books do make an appearance, but I had not problem understanding this book without having read the previous series. Moira Cade, as stated previously is investigating murders around the campus, ritualistic murders tied to the Morgons. The synopsis does a good job in explaining what the book is about, so there is need for me to go over it again. Moira does but heads Kol Moonring, the head of Morgan guard; but she is a independent woman, and he is an alpha dragon; so that is to be expected.   Kol is not such and alpha dragon, as he does realize that Moira is smart and capable, but also foolhardy as she puts the safety of others before herself.   The book was a fun read. I did find the lore of the morgon birth as a species had to believe. The serial killer aspect also seemed to be a red herring for the larger story arc, involving the Morgons and their heritage.

Final verdict is yes this book is worth the price, in fact I purchase the Nightwing series by the author. If you are looking for thriller dragon romance, then this book is for you.

Note one thing that bothered me was the cover of this books as those wings the male has would never lift his body weight.
