Solina Mundy lives a quiet life, running the family bakery in her small North Carolina hometown. But one night, she suffers a vivid nightmare in which a wolfish beast is devouring her twin brother, who lives in Alaska. The next morning, police notify her that Mani is dead. Driven to learn the truth, Solina heads for the Land of the Midnight Sun. Once there, she begins to suspect Mani’s friends know more about his death than they’ve let on. Skyla, an ex-Marine, is the only one willing to help her. As Solina and Skyla delve into the mystery surrounding Mani’s death, Solina is stunned to learn that her own life is tied to Mani’s friends, his death, and the fate of the entire world. If she can’t learn to control her newfound gifts and keep her friends safe, a long-lost dominion over mortals will rise again, and everything she knows will fall into darkness.

Rosette's Review

I was offered to read this book in turn for an honest review.

Please note theire are a few spoilers in the review.

So, wow! Lets’s talk about Midnight Burning. I love urban fantasy. I love the action, fight scenes, tough as nails characters, and all the stuff that can’t happen in real life. Vampires, werewolves, the occasional undead are all subject matters that I adore ( cue heart emoji). However,  Norse Mythology was one area that never seemed to catch my interest, unless of course I’m watching Tom Hiddleston on the big screen.

But because werewolves were mentioned in the synopsis, I took a leap and said yes to a review. Am I ever glad I did!

This particular part of the book description hooked me in.

If she can’t learn to control her newfound gifts and keep her friends safe, a long-lost dominion over mortals will rise again, and everything she knows will fall into darkness.

It turns out that wolves were only a small part of this intriguing story. There was so much more, and the pages turned rather quickly as I continued to read about Solina’s brave adventure.

Time has passed since her brother’s death and Solina is finally strong enough to travel to Alaska in hopes of finding out what really happened to her brother. Along the way she befriends many of her brothers coworkers and good friends, but they are not what the seem. These friends are more complex than she originally thought, and they come baring with a destiny that will entangle and bind Solina’s life forever with her own.  Traveling is a necessity for these characters and they don’t stay too long in Alaska. They travel every where, and in style! Meanwhile her parents are awaiting for her return back to her normal life, and good luck with that! Solina is finding it harder and harder to leave the fate she seems destined to fulfill. Strong female characters, jealous gods, and an action packed story like this is such a great find! Would Solina really want to give up all this for a mundane life in a bakery? I think not! Cookies, cakes, and muffins really don’t compare to her new found powers, not to mention two adoring gods trying to vye for her attention; something she takes in stride and often eyerolls at.

If your interests are in the paranormal genre, I would highly recommend this book. I really can’t wait to read the next addition and rumors are it is in the works!! I was really quite surprised how much this piqued my interest, because Norse Mythology really wasn’t my thing. But I can tell you it is now!!
