b’s musings

I was graciously awarded the opportunity to once again dive into the wonderful world of Leigh Russell in her third instalment of the DI Ian Peterson Murder Investigation series, Blood Axe.  And much to this mystery lovers heart’s content, it did not disappoint! This was a face paced and thoroughly engrossing ride full of complicated characters and unsuspecting twists.

Blood Axe is a continuation of Ian’s adjustment into the police force in the English city of York and I feel, a more cohesive picture of who is as man as well as an investigator. We become more invested in his overall well being for he is far from a simple, one-dimensional figure. I appreciated having someone who lives within the greys and add to it a truly complicated and unique storyline, it was truly a story to get lost in. I hate to give more detail beyond the synopsis above as it would be a great injustice to spoil the magic of a truly well penned novel. However, I will say while I was already a fan of Ms. Russell’s work, this piece of crime fiction truly makes me eager to divest into other pieces in her repertoire. I hope this will not be the last of Ian Peterson because I cannot wait to see how life continues to unfold for him.

If you have not read any of Leigh Russell’s magnificent work and enjoy a good mystery, then I cannot recommend her more highly. I had the great pleasure of meeting her quite serendipitiously and she is as delightful as her talent with her pen.

As always, these are my thoughts and opinions based on my preferences as a reader.
