~ Maria’s Thoughts ~

“When you look at this jar, don’t think of it as empty. It’s not. It’s full of promise, promise of all the bright and beautiful things that it will hold. Your life is the same way. It won’t ever be empty, if you can see the beauty that will fill it.”

A story unlike any other I have ever read. A romance unlike any author M. Leighton has ever written. An amazing, heartbreakingly beautiful story of a love so true, so deep, it transcends everything else. The Empty Jar is moving, extremely emotional and poignant.  It is about a happily married couple living their happily ever after when fate unexpectedly steps in. They say life happens while you’re busy making plans, but Elena and Nate were living their life and it was unfairly, irrevocably changed. I don’t know if I ever cried the way I did with this book. I don’t know if I ever felt as much as I did while reading this book. It touched my very soul. I’m actually at a loss for words. It’s hard to talk about this story without giving things away. And, I don’t want to spoil it. You must read it and experience it for yourself.

“Let’s love enough for the rest of my life,” I suggest with a wry grin. His next words stop my heart.”No, let’s love enough for the rest of mine.”

Tear-jerker. Heart stopper. So many moments in this story took my breath away and made my heart seize. It is sad, hopeful, simply brilliant. The story so real, so relevant, it touches every part of you. Their determination to take the trip of a lifetime leads them to their biggest adventure.  The characters are honest, down to earth and relatable. Author M. Leighton does a fantastic job developing  all her characters, from Nate and Lena to their best friend, Nissa, who is everything you could want in a best friend. M. Leighton utilizes dual POV to tell this story and she does it so very well. I felt their every emotion. Their love, their commitment, their loss and their hope.  And the passion they have for each other is romantic, sensual,  tender, erotic and hot.  I was completely and totally captivated by Nate and Lena. This book will stay with me always. It is so much more than a love story, though it is that, too. It’s a story of courage, honesty, faith and sacrifice. A story of untenable choices and a love so deep, it will move you.

Load up on Kleenex and take the journey with Nate and Lena. You will be glad you did. And always fill your jar!

About Michelle Leighton

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author M. Leighton is a native of Ohio. She relocated to the warmer climates of the South, where she can be near the water all summer and miss the snow all winter. Possessed of an overactive imagination from early in her childhood, Michelle finally found an acceptable outlet for her fantastical visions: literary fiction. Having written over a dozen novels, these days Michelle enjoys letting her mind wander to more romantic settings with sexy Southern guys, much like the one she married and the ones you’ll find in her latest books.
