Karen’s Review
I have read a lot of missteps in literature lately, churned out by everyone and anyone that has a computer and a spell and grammar check program. A lot of those self published books should not even have seen the light of day. Just because a person can read and enjoy a book doesn’t mean they can or should become an author, everyone might have a story, but not everyone can craft characters. Then just as I was about to throw up my hands and declare I have read all the solid Indie author’s in fantasy and I need to stop looking for the elusive new fantasy author with talent, I stumble upon Tiffany Roberts’ book Make Me Burn book one of the Isle of the Forgotten series. I will admit I saw the book several times, but passed it up. I finally broke down and sampled it, I was expecting not to like it, because I have read enough drivel to be fed up with people who think they can write. I was expecting for it to be another porn book disguised as a fantasy romance. I was thrilled and stunned that the book Make Me Burn had substance, it had developed characters, and a plot! It actually had the allusive plot that is missing from so many Indie author books. It wasn’t just sex scene after sex scene hinged together by a non sex scenes. Plus Roberts’ who I understand is a husband and wife writing team actually had a unique story. After I fell off my couch, because this is a momentous occasion, as I had been surrounded by Indie Science Fiction, Patsnormal, Fantasy hell; I was enthralled by a demon protagonist and the story of his island captivity. I am not talking a sweet cuddly misunderstood demon, but one that burned and killed for thousands of years, making no apologizes. Then he finds himself captive on a prison isle. Hmmm…. Now the fun begins. What makes a demon evil nature vs nurture, and can even a demon reform for love? The main moralistic question in this story is how we choose to live, and the choices we make that lead us down the path our lives take.
In this field of lots of authors that have made my brain bleed with their lack of story telling talent it is a boon to have found Tiffany Roberts. If the authors continue on tis path they well be as sought after as Grace Draven and Elizabeth Hunter, when it come to the books that I read immediately upon release.
