~ Maria’s Review ~
” I might have an easier time rejecting him if he weren’t a female lubricant.”
This book. Wow. I absolutely loved it! I was actually sad to finish it because I wanted more. This novella was HOT, SEXY, and too short for me. I loved Jamie and Melody’s story and honestly, I loved Jamie even more than dark, brooding, Vicious. He is the perfect book boyfriend.
I read Vicious before I knew about this short story. And, while I loved and definitely recommend Vicious, Defy was just fantastic. Although I knew how it would end because of the small spoilers in Vicious, I was still excited to read about how Jamie and Melody meet and get involved.
“Whether I was corrupting or being corrupted…I loved how it made me feel.”
The taboo of the teacher / student affair makes for an intriguing story, especially with the heroine being the teacher and the hero, not only the student but the aggressor. She may have been older, the one with the power, but he was in control. I was hooked from page one, and, wanted them to be together, propriety be damned. The age difference wasn’t that big and he is 18. That made me feel better about the fact that I was good with, even, wanted them to have a relationship, despite their roles and age. Their attraction was palpable. I liked the push / pull; the way Melody tried to fight the inevitable. I enjoyed their banter, the humor and innuendo.
The story was well written, even if the author calls it smutty insta-lust. The synopsis also says insta-love, but I didn’t think it was. I didn’t think it was just smutty but smutty with a purpose. A hot, short love story. I liked how author LJ Shen showed their feelings grow and that it went from lust to more. I connected with and liked the characters. I wanted Melody to catch a break and get her HEA. And Jamie was such a different character than Vicious. I hate comparing them, but, Jamie is my favorite of the HotHoles. He is gorgeous, cocky, confident, and charming. He’s also thoughtful, romantic, protective and smoking hot. Like I said before, he’s perfect, even when he’s not.
I definitely recommend this quick, steamy romance and then read Vicious, too, because, after all, you can never have too many bad boys.
