Callie Hart. This book. Damn. It was not what I expected. It was more than I expected. I love Rooke. He is your next book boyfriend. And. He. Is. Hot.
I must admit I wanted to read this book because I am a fan of author Callie Hart. Throw in that cover and I was in. I didn’t need to know anything more.
When I first started reading, author Callie Hart broke my heart within the first few pages. The heroine, Sasha Connor experiences a tragedy I couldn’t imagine. The loss is devastating and you could feel it bleed through the pages. The emotion was intense.
As I kept reading, I thought, huh, this book doesn’t seem like what I thought it would be. There was humor, poking fun at romance readers and those who tease romance readers. I liked how the author wrote that in because it worked, it was different and made me chuckle. The hero, Rooke, is much younger than Sasha. He isn’t exactly a boy scout, nor does he make the best choices. But, decides to pursue her. Sasha is intelligent, hard-working but really only going through the motions of living. Their story seemed more like it was going down a contemporary romance route. A sweet read with emotional angst. A hot younger man with an older, more reserved woman. Makes for a great romance. And then….Callie Hart yanked the rose colored glasses right off my face. The story took a twist and landed right where author Callie Hart lives. And I loved it.
Holy alpha male! Rooke is dominant, sexy. dangerous. and protective. He knows what he wants and he gets it. He takes it. He completely had me. The attraction between Sasha and Rooke is off the charts. The push/pull draws you in and the insta-lust is intoxicating. It’s alternating POV, which I love, especially with Rooke narrating.
I got caught up in the danger and couldn’t read fast enough. My mind swirled with theories. The story picks up and just when you think you can breathe…BAM, another incredible twist!! The sex was steamy and intensely erotic. There was emotion, too. It was a coming together of two unlikely characters. Rooke helps Sasha find her way. She gives him a reason to focus. Together they are incredible. Definitely recommend.

Despite the subject matter being markedly hot and heavy in comparison to the stories she wrote in elementary school, there will always be an element of fairytale to her work.
