Such a great, unconventional love story. Mercy had everything I love in a book. A sexy, messed up hero, a strong, beautiful heroine and a twisted, dark story.
I loved Nix, a.k.a Mercy. His description was a bit scary but his character grew on me and I found him strangely hot and alluring. My heart broke for him and all he went through that made him who he is today. A stalker with a reason. A killer who rights the wrongs. A protector who is damaged. Becca was unassumingly beautiful and caring. Empathetic and compassionate, she is inexplicably drawn to Nix. Due to the alternate POV writing, the reader is privy to their history. This helps endear Nix to me, rather than think he’s a crazy stalker.
Their journey is filled with half-truths, misunderstandings and danger. Nix and Becca have palpable chemistry. Two more polar opposites they couldn’t be, but their attraction is intense. Becca doesn’t understand it. She doesn’t know. Their push/pull drew me in. I wanted them to find a way.
Mercy is darker than your average romance but not too dark. It is actually sweet, steamy and heartbreaking. I was captivated by the man covered in ink, but I must admit, at times, the pacing was a little slow for me. However, I still loved Becca and Nix’s story. Not to mention Animal’s character and her best friend, Henry. They made me laugh and provided great support to our hero and heroine. I was invested in their HEA. I love the way author Debra Anastasia ended the story and delivers the message that beauty is everywhere and different to everyone.
