DEVIL’S NIGHT is returning! Hiding places, chases, and all the games are back…
Buried in the shadows of the city, there’s a hotel called The Pope. Ailing, empty, and dark—it sits abandoned and surrounded by a forgotten mystery.
But you think it’s true, don’t you, Kai Mori? The story about the hidden twelfth floor. The mystery of the dark guest who never checked in and never checks out. You think I can help you find that secret hideaway and get to him, don’t you?
You and your friends can try to scare me. You can try to push me. Because even though I struggle to hide everything I feel when you look at me—and have ever since I was a girl—I think that maybe what you seek is so much closer than you’ll ever realize.
I will never betray him.
So sit tight.
On Devil’s Night, the hunt will be coming to you.
You have no idea what I seek, Little One. You don’t know what I had to become to survive three years in prison for a crime I would gladly commit again.
No one can know what I’ve turned into.
I want that hotel, I want to find him, and I want this over.
I want my life back.
But the more I’m around you, the more I realize this new me is exactly who I was meant to be.
So come on, kid. Don’t chicken out. My house is on the hill. So many ways in, and good luck finding your way out.
I’ve seen your hideaway. Time to see mine.
*Hideaway is a romantic suspense suitable for ages 18+. While the romance is a stand-alone, the plot is a continuation of events that began in CORRUPT (Devil’s Night, #1). It is strongly recommended that you have read Corrupt prior to reading this. It is currently on sale for $0.99.
~ Maria’s Review ~
This book has been a long time coming and it was absolutely worth the wait. One of my most anticipated releases this year, Hideaway is everything I expected and more. Penelope Douglas just keeps the hits coming. I totally FLOVED this book and look forward to more.
Kai and Banks are amazing characters. Dare I say, I love them even more than Rika and Michael. And that’s saying a lot because I loved them.
But, Kai is everything I want in a leading male. He is gorgeous, sexy, smooth, cocky, confident and alpha. Yet, he is also vulnerable, empathetic, caring and compassionate. Kai is powerful and can be an arrogant jerk but he also has emotional depth. He is dominant, always in control…until, he’s not.
Banks is such a complex character. She is beautiful, smart, suspicious, closed off and tough on the outside. She is also vulnerable, eager for love, confused and loyal to a fault. She frustrated me at times, but I totally got her. I wanted to bang their heads together at times.
They’re on opposite sides but more in sync than they care to admit. Banks will never waver in her loyalty to him and Kai needs to find him for answers, to end the nightmare one way or another. Like a game of chess or high stakes poker, they play. The stakes are high. Their connection blurring the lines.
The hunters become the hunted…the perfect villain. Not all bad. Not pure evil. Not in my eyes. Adding to the suspense, the pyschological thrill. Now, his father, on the other hand is a complete and total d*****bag! Not a redeeming quality in him. And don’t get me started on his mother.
The cat and mouse game in Hideaway made my heart race. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. I held my breathe, a lot. This book is filled with OMG, WTF, and holy s*** moments!! It also has some seriously steamy, sexy moments. Corrupt has the sauna but author Penelope Douglas outdoes that in Hideaway. Holy hotness!
The banter and snarky dialogue between Kai and Banks is fantastic. I love the one liners and quick comebacks. Their chemistry is off the charts. The push/pull is intense. I love the way they both try to play unaffected by the other. Their head games were fun. Not for them but definitely for me.
Author Penelope Douglas does an amazing job telling their story using flashbacks and alternating POV. I feel as if I always knew Banks and I loved being in both their heads. It helped me love them even when I wanted to scream at them, especially Banks. Secrets come to light. The past can’t stay hidden forever. I love the way the author stays true to the relationships between Kai, Michael, Will, Rika, and even Damon. She lets things evolve naturally and her characters grow and change, but are true to themselves. The story focuses on Kai and Banks but the horsemen and Rika are in it, as well. I love that, because they are integral to the story.
Hideaway easily gets 5 stars from me. I highly recommend it. You really need to read Corrupt first to fully appreciate and understand the story. But Corrupt is awesome, too. So it’s a win-win! Definitely a must read series and I eagerly look forward to more!!
