He's a troubled young actor, Hollywood's newest heartthrob, struggling with fame as the star of the latest superhero franchise. Through scandal after scandal, addiction on top of addiction, a flurry of paparazzi hunt him as he fights to conquer his demons.

She's a single mother, assistant manager at a grocery store, existing in monotony with her five-year-old daughter. Every day when she goes to work, lurid tabloids surround her, the face of a notorious bad boy haunting her from their covers.

A man and a woman, living vastly different lives, but that wasn't always the case. Once, they were just a boy and a girl who bonded over comic books and fell in love unexpectedly.

When Kennedy Garfield met Jonathan Cunningham back in high school, she knew he had all the makings of a tragic hero. With stars in his eyes, and her heart on her sleeve, the pair ran away together to follow their dreams.

But dreams, sometimes, turn into nightmares.

Now, years later, the only thing they share is a daughter—one who has no idea her father plays her favorite superhero. But Jonathan is desperate to make amends, and at the top of his list is the woman who gave up everything for him and the little girl he hasn't yet met.

Today I’m going to do something I rarely do unless a book is a recognized classic. I am not going to assign a rating to J. M Darhower’s Ghosted. For those of you who prefer to know how others have rated a book before you are willing to jump in and give it a chance, there are plenty of places to look for the stars! I’m not assigning stars because I changed my mind so many times while listening, I finally gave up and decided to share my thoughts and leave the stars to someone else. I highly recommend this book to my readers and listeners who like the New Adult genre even though it is quite a departure for me. Yes, some of the characters are mean and some of them do mean things, but they are just flawed rather than being certifiable like the psychos who usually populate my favorite books. Ghosted is a sweet romance between two people who fall in love in high school and travel a rocky road together before parting ways. As time goes by, they have a second chance to make their relationship work and the storyline follows them as they once more travel a rocky road. If you’re finding things a bit predictable so far, you’re right; nevertheless, you will want to stay to the end because the characters are so engaging. Jonathan Cunningham dreams of being an actor and becomes a typical Hollywood bad boy — even the love of a good woman doesn’t keep him from drugs and loose women. Kennedy Garfield is a strong woman who is determined to support Jonathan until the prospect of bringing a child into that world changes everything. Still predictable, right?

Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell alternate the narration and it is very effective. I think listeners will find their performances to be the kind that strengthen the author’s work and bring a new dimension to her words.

Now for the unpredictable part . . . who knew that I would fall hopelessly in love with a 5-year-old girl named Madison! J. M Darhower has made her so adorable you just want to call up her mom and offer to babysit for a few hours. And as if all that cuteness isn’t enough, Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell each have a voice for Maddie that is perfect! If I were giving stars, which I’m not, there would be 5 shiny gold ones for these two narrators. Ghosted is a really feel good sort of book that will make the author’s fans very happy — especially the audio version!
