4.5 Stars for Vandal ~ Ashes and Ember #2
She takes my breath away; she is so beautifully damaged.
Yes I had broken her, ravished her life, destroyed her happiness. I brought her to ultimate despair. I was responsible for all the pain and suffering that now brought her to her knees in front of me.
Reckless in her agony.
She is a mirror of my own tortured soul.
But what I took away I can give back.
In ways she cannot even begin to imagine.
She is everything right in all my wrongs.
She loves me. She needs me.
She has no idea I’m the one who wrecked her life.
Vandal is a dark romance with light BDSM. He is emotionally damaged and manipulative, but still wants love. This book deals with death, grief, deception, substance abuse, depression, and graphic sex. If this is not your thing, you can skip this book and move onto the next in the series and you will not be lost. Vandal is not the sweetheart that the other guys in Ashes & Embers are – but even the dark and damaged deserve to be loved, right?
~ My Thoughts ~
Vandal ~ A character who is so beautifully broken and filled with such rage and self-hatred. While this may sound crazy I have fallen so freaking hard for this character I can’ find the words to accurately describe my feelings. He’s direct and to the point and won’t bend or conform for anyone. I don’t think I have ever read a character that truly could care less about another’s feelings. He is a tell it like it is kind of guy and if you don’t like, well you might as well fuck off because as I said Vandal won’t conform and honestly he could care less. At first I thought he was a grade A asshole and then I read a bit more and without realizing it this character embedded himself within my soul. His grief just bled into me and I was gutted. His decline into a world of haze just about killed me and his passion brought me to my knees with insane desire. It was impossible not to fall for Vandal ~ he is the ultimate bad boy.
Tabitha is such a complex character. Maybe it’s her past, or perhaps it’s how she lost everything within a matter of minuets. This is a character who grows into her own with each turn of the page. She is lost, witty, fearful and living within a self-imposed haze of darkness. Everyday becomes more of a struggle to survive and the grey that used to surround her is now shrouded in black and you wonder as you read if she will ever see the light again.
This story is highly emotional. Circumstances that bring these two characters together are horrific and heartbreaking. It’s the way the characters handle the situation that will have you glued to your book. The highs and lows, the secrets, the lies and the unnerving feelings that come to light are written so brilliantly.
I applaud the author for her unique and decadent deliciously tempting take on BDSM. Not only was she creative in her scenes but the toys and implements were refreshing new and enticing. I loved that these scenes were so incredibly different from what I have read in the past. Tempting … Dirty and so utterly mind-blowing – craving Vandal happened without me even realizing it.
“I don’t know shit about love and romance, but I know that true submission goes far deeper than love. It gives more; it takes more. Love is fragile and can be destroyed. Submission is strong and only strengthens with time. Love leaves people weak and devastated, as she is now. Submission heals and awakens. Submission is love on fucking steroids. Men like me have a radar for women that need to submit, and she’s silently screaming for it just as much as I’ve been silently begging to give it.”
Vandal is such a beautifully raw and realistic look at what happens when one character whose life has been far from easy and has been filled with abuse, mistrust and self-harming. When that life takes a surprise turn, the darkness that has always overshadowed now has light filtering though. Until the conceivable happens. The actions that cause this devastation effect not only Vandal. That is where the story really begin.
This is my third book from this author. Carian Cole has an indescribable talent for creating realistic characters and story lines that grasp the reader’s attention. She has quickly become a buy by name author for me.
I truly hope that if you read Vandal and I hope you do, that you fall as hard and fast as I did for this extraordinary character.

~ About The Author ~
I have a passion for the bad boys, those covered in tattoos, sexy smirks, ripped jeans, fast cars, motorcycles and of course, the sweet girls that try to tame them and win their hearts. My debut series, Ashes & Embers, follows the lives of rock band members as they find, and sometimes lose, the loves of their lives.
My first novel in the Ashes & Embers series, Storm, was published in September of 2014, and I have lots of books planned for this series. Devils Wolves is a spin off series, but all can be read standalone, and out of order.
Born and raised a Jersey girl, I now reside in beautiful New Hampshire with my husband and our multitude of furry pets and spend most of my time writing, reading, and vacuuming.
