Because December seems to be a month characterized by “Best of 2019” lists, I’m going to succumb to temptation and make this month’s “Best of” a lineup of my favorite listens for the year. The title of each book will link to my original post in case you want to read more about it. In looking back, I see my list is quite eclectic as to genre, author, and subject matter. All are books I gave 5 stars and, remarkably, even though some authors were featured more than once in my monthly posts, none received 5 stars more than once so each of my 16 selections is written by a different artist. Also, remarkably, each of the books is performed by a different narrator. There is definitely diversity in the subject matter although you are not surprised, I’m sure, that mystery, suspense, and psychotics play starring roles in most of the writing. My two Favorites of the Most Favored are Dust Tracks on a Road by Zora Neale Hurston and The Amulet by Michael McDowell because both still live in my mind even though their authors have left this life.

I didn’t listen to any books with a Christmas theme so the best of the month of December is going to be a toss-up between two books that took up most of my limited listening time: the first of a new series by Kristen Ashley – The Beginning of Everything: The Rising, Book 1 and the conclusion of Nora Roberts’ Chronicles of The One trilogy, The Rise of the Magicks. Both are set in fantasy worlds with magical beings making them perfect for a month inhabited by jolly old St. Nickolas, his elves, and a fleet of flying reindeer! Full reviews will follow in January; meanwhile, I wish each of you a New Year filled with the pleasures of audiobooks that come alive as you listen.
