True love brings a deadly threat to the Black Dagger Brotherhood in this sizzling new novel in J.R. Ward’s #1 New York Times bestselling series.
Possessed by the demon Devina, Balthazar is once again on the hunt for the Book of Spellsβ€”and fighting an undeniable attraction to a woman. As a thief, he has stolen a lot of things…but he never thought his heart would be taken by another. Especially not a human.
As a homicide detective, Erika Saunders knows there is something otherworldly going on in Caldwell, New York. Mutilated bodies that cannot be explained are all over her case listβ€”and then there are her nightmares in which she’s hunted by shadows and captivated by a mysterious man who is both a suspect and a savior.
When Devina’s wish for true love is finally granted, Balthazar and Erika unwittingly become the gateway for the rebirth of an old enemy of the Brothers. Will the very thing that brings them together lead to the ultimate destruction of the Brotherhood? Or will they have to lose everything in order to save the race’s most sacred defenders?

~ Maria’s Review ~

Lover Arisen is book 20 in the fantastic Black Dagger Brotherhood series by the indomitable author JR Warden. She never ceases to amaze me. One would think after so many books, the series would get stale, but not with author JR Ward at the helm! Her style of writing and intricate way of storytelling continues to deliver addicting characters, captivating storylines and amazing world building. She stays true to her original characters while creating new and exciting relationships.

Lover Arisen focuses on Balthazar and Erika, however, as with all the novels, there is a bigger story arc that connects the books together. Good vs evil. Light vs dark. Love vs envy, jealousy and hate. Chaos and control. It’s just so good!!!

I love the character and relationship development of our hero and heroine, analyzes and Erika. He has been a favorite of mine and she is sassy and fierce. Their attraction was immediate and strong. I loved the way they were together. Β Another perfect pairing and yet, the plot twists!!!!

This story is sad, sexy, gritty and compelling. It reminds me of the earlier novels on the series. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the Devina crossover but with each book, I find I enjoy her more. She adds to the chaos and I’m here for it. Lover Arisen is a an emotional rollercoaster with twists and turns. It is everything a BDB fan would expect it to be and sets up the next novel perfectly. Definitely recommend!!
