Macayla"He’s rude, abrupt and doesn’t know how to smile."
My new landlord, ex-Special Forces Vic Gate, is intense, and even that’s too domesticated a word to describe him. Extreme raw power seems more appropriate. Or maybe godlike, except there isn’t anything forgiving or merciful in him. Then again, he gave me and my little boy Jackson a week to vacate his cabin instead of seven minutes.
But the dangerously quiet, six-foot-four muscled wall does something to me. And it’s way more than a sweet fluttering in my belly. This is an eagle-diving, bee-stinging, fire-breathing-dragon fluttering that causes all kinds of chaos inside me.
He’s everything I need to stay clear of. And it shouldn’t be hard to do considering he wants nothing to do with us.Until his protectiveness emerges and I soon discover there is much more to the cold, gruff Vic Gate.
But falling for a highly trained killer with nightmares crammed into his dark, lethal eyes comes with consequences. The question is whether I can survive them.
Vic Gate“You won’t survive me, rainbird.”
Cold. Hard. Unbending.Nothing to unhinge me.That is until her.The little rainbird perched inside my cabin with her ocean-eyes that are scarred into me.Now I want more. The problem is whether I’ll destroy her in the process.

~ Maria’s 5 Star Review ~
Five Second Rainbird by author Nashoda Rose is absolutely brilliant. It is the first in her new series, Underground Horsemen and you’re going to love it! I know I did!!
If you’re familiar with the author’s Unyielding series or Tear Asunder series, the name Vic Gate is one you’ve heard. But nothing can prepare you for the man. I have been eagerly awaiting his story since author Nashoda Rose hinted she’d love to write a book for him. And let me confirm, Five Second Rainbird was absolutely worth the wait. It is everything I hoped for and more.
Nashoda Rose’s creative story telling and unique writing style had me hooked from word one. I was so invested in the characters. Especially Vic Gate. He is perfectly imperfect. Gorgeous, dangerous, damaged and smart. He suffers due to demons from his past. Macayla is beautiful, patient, caring and kind. Looking for a fresh start. Crossing paths with Vic Gate was unexpected, and started a chain of events that had me on the edge of my seat. My heart hurt for both of them. Their connection was deep. Their chemistry, palpable. Their interactions gave me whiplash.
Five Second Rainbird is a slow burn. It is a dark, intense story filled with twists and turns. I love all the supporting characters and how they enhance the story. Jackson stole my heart. But Vic Gate might just be my favorite Nashoda Rose character to date. He is everything I love in a hero. He is delicious, dangerous, dominant and protective. Totally alpha but with a vein of vulnerability that cemented him deep in my heart. He will be a tough act to follow. But I have no doubt that author Nashoda Rose will rise to the challenge for the next book and deliver a story just as addicting and engaging as she did with Five Second Rainbird. And, I for one, am here for it!!
