The Idea of You

by

Robinne Lee

Solène Marchand, the thirty-nine-year-old owner of an art gallery in Los Angeles, is reluctant to take her daughter, Isabelle, to meet her favorite boy band. But since her divorce, she’s more eager than ever to be close to Isabelle. The last thing Solène expects is to make a connection with one of the members of the world-famous August Moon. But Hayes Campbell is clever, winning, confident, and posh, and the attraction is immediate. That he is all of twenty years old further complicates things.

What begins as a series of clandestine trysts quickly evolves into a passionate and genuine relationship. It is a journey that spans continents as Solène and Hayes navigate each other’s worlds: from stadium tours to international art fairs to secluded hideaways in Paris and Miami. For Solène, it is a reclaiming of self, as well as a rediscovery of happiness and love. When Solène and Hayes’ romance becomes a viral sensation, and both she and her daughter become the target of rabid fans and an insatiable media, Solène must face how her romantic life has impacted the lives of those she cares about most.

~ My Thoughts ~

Coincidence, maybe but I will admit I found it odd that the day I started my re-read of the Idea of You, it popped up in my memories that it was the same day as my last re-read. Some things never change, including my feelings about this wonderful novel.

My initial thoughts after finishing the book remained the same.

Every woman should experience a love as pure and rich in emotion as the love shared between Hayes and Solene.

The ending, which has been debated time and time again by fans of this book to me, is perfect. It is real life. It is true. It is heartfelt and heartbreaking. No sugarcoating just raw emotions transferred from the pages of the book into the deepest parts of your entire being.

The idea that this could happen had happened brought the story to life and added such a sense of realism, it truly was astounding.

The portrayal of family life, divorce, raising children was written with care and consideration. Never once wavering of the true emotions that encompass the reactions to actions within the story. Heartbreaking at times, loving and warm other times, emotions are not sugarcoated, they are raw, real, and written with grace.

I adore this novel. I think of it constantly and consider it to be in the top three favorite books.

I have just finished reading and I am once again ready to jump back into the world of music, mayhem, art, love, sacrifice, and everything else The Idea of You encompasses.
