“Stay away from him,” people said.
“He’s cruel.”
“He’s cold.”
“He’s damaged.”
It’s easy to judge a man because of his past. To look at Tristan and see a monster.
But I couldn’t do that. I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him because it also lived inside of me.
We were both empty.
We were both looking for something else. Something more.
We both wanted to put together the shattered pieces of our yesterdays.
Then perhaps we could finally remember how to breathe.

~ My Thoughts ~

Once again Brittainy Cherry shares a story that is breathtaking.  Tackling a subject that is so emotional and close to the heart she tells us a story that is relatable on so many levels.

The characters are written with such acute attention to detail.  Visualizing the characters is effortless.  They are complex, intense, broken, lost, strong, hurt, weak and the realism the author incorporates into their emotions and actions is simply put, perfect.

We follow the story of two people’s lives.  The good, the bad and everything in between.  We learn and get to know their families and friends, all who play significant roles in creating a well-rounded enjoyable, heartbreaking at times, loving story of life, loss and illusions of the past.

The emotional breakdowns and building up of not just the main characters but the sub-characters within this story are written with such depth and emotion you can’t help but feel the words.  The intense need and desire to hold onto the past and refusing to move on into the present are written in such a distinctive manner.  The creativity the author uses in these scenes are unlike anything I have read and I will admit these scenes had a big impact on me.

The Air He Breaths is a tale of how we live life.  How we handle the darkness and the grief.  How we mold ourselves.  It is the story of the person we share with others in daily life and the person we only share with ourselves.  It is a story of learning to accept reality, to cherish memories and move forward.  With so many surprises incorporated into the storyline I found this to be a wonderful story that touched me on so many different levels.
