Author: Melissa Collins
Genre: Contemporary Romance/New Adult
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Book description:
What would happen if you lost everything? If the people who were supposed to love you unconditionally were no longer there for you, how would your world change?
Madeleine Becker lost everything when her parents died when she was ten years old. Ripped from her home and everything that she has ever loved, she is forced to start all over again. The only way for her to move on is to build walls around her heart and keep everyone at a safe distance. Her logic: she can’t get hurt if she doesn’t fall in love.
That theory is blown to pieces when she meets Reid Connely during her freshman year at college. He is gorgeous and darkly mysterious. He understands Maddy’s pain all too well, but sharing his pain would mean breaking down the walls he put up around his own heart. Conflicted between loving Maddy and hiding his dark past, Reid starts to reevaluate his world. Maddy’s inner strength, snarky personality and breath taking beauty help Reid to make peace with his past.
Together they find out what happens when they let love in.
Review:
I’m so impressed and SHOCKED that this is Melissa’s first book. It’s a wonderful debut and great first installment to Reid and Maddy’s story! I’m very eager to read the next book because I have a gut feeling that I’ll love it just as much as the first…if not, MORE! <- and that’s saying a lot! Bravo Melissa! 🙂
Maddy is one of those people you admire for their will to keep going. She’s lost her parents at a very young age and most recently, her grandmother. She feels like she’s a burden to her best friend and her mother as they take her into their home, with open arms. Maddy is excited, nervous and scared to move away for college, but she knows it’s what she needs to grow. Once she’s there and makes new friends, she begins to break those walls she’s put up. Even her ex-boyfriend, who loved her more than she could’ve ever hope for, wasn’t enough for her. With a new change of scenery, Maddy is finally open to letting love in, and that’s exactly what she does when Reid storms into her life.
Reid has a past that scares him too, and he doesn’t want to share it with anyone. He shares a bond with Maddy: he doesn’t have a family either. Actually, he does but they don’t speak, and you’ll just have to find out why by reading the book! 😉 #PlotTwist! He’s moody, a womanizer, and not looking for something serious. However, after seeing Maddy for the beautiful person she is (inside and out), he knows she’s trustworthy. They both fall madly in love and struggle to not let their pasts dictate their future.
This was a beautifully told story about a hopeful, young couple that learns to appreciate life. They both have tragic pasts, but together they’ll find a way to work through their difficulties of believing in people and what it means to love. Reid is that bad boy we all adore and hate. The first encounter will make your blood boil and then your heart stop! You’ll want to slap him and then kiss him with the things that he says. He’s that rebel turned good! All thanks to meeting his perfect match: Maddy! 😉
