~ Synopsis ~

Looking for the perfect mix of smart, sexy, and sassy? Mai Tai’d Up continues New York Times bestselling author Alice Clayton’s Cocktail series, which began with Wallbanger and continued with Rusty Nailed and Screwdrivered.

The gossip mill in the seaside community of Monterey is churning about Chloe Patterson, the newcomer who is starting a sanctuary for rescued pit bulls. It’s rumored that she’s a former beauty queen (true) who ditched her fiancé the morning of their wedding (also true). And that while she’s not looking for a new man, the good-looking local veterinarian has his eye on her. Absolutely, positively true.

When Lucas Campbell isn’t at the family veterinary clinic, he’s paddle boarding in Monterey Bay. Recently single, he’s definitely not in the market for a new relationship, but he still can’t resist taking a second, third, and fourth look at the recent arrival of Miss Golden State.

Neither Lucas nor Chloe has any interest in being tied down. Being tied up, however—now there’s a thought. But are a few Mai Tais, a moonlit night, and the music of Frank Sinatra enough to allow them both to forget their past? Let’s hope Ol’ Blue Eyes knows what he’s doing.

Mix one part tiki, one part kinky, and a splash of old black magic matchmaking, and it’s time to be . . . Mai Tai’d Up.

~ Review ~

Alice  Clayton serves up another funny, romantic hit! In this 4th installment of the Cocktail series, we meet Chloe Patterson and Lucas Campbell.

A former beauty queen living the proper life, engaged to the proper man, and volunteering at all the proper events makes her want to scream on the inside.  Chloe is on a journey of self discovery after making a choice that changes her life as she has known it. It’s on this journey that she meets Dr. Lucas Campbell,  the sexy veterinarian who works in the town she escapes to.  They meet and sparks fly but neither one wants to get into a relationship right now, so they become friends, because that always works out, right?

“You can’t always wait until everything’s perfect-sometimes it happens when it’s not supposed to. You roll with it, right?” ~ Lucas Campbell

Hilarity ensues as they fight the attraction and try to remain friends. Chloe’s inner thoughts and the dialogue between them is perfectly Alice Clayton style. It will make you laugh and sigh as they get to know each other. Chloe has a secret she keeps on a whim but begins to weigh on her as their relationship grows.

But this book is more than your typical romance. It is a story about believing in oneself. Chloe comes into her own as she strives for independence while making her dream come true. There is the secondary storyline of her relationship with her mother too. Strong characters and funny lines make this a quick, light fun read. I must admit that I would have liked to see more of the relationship between Chloe and Lucas, more of them together. It felt a bit more like Chloe’s book than them as a couple. Still a good read. Author Alice Clayton’s writing style is unique and fantastic. Fans will enjoy this romantic comedy.
