I know we have a lot of readers following the blog who are lovers of the New Adult genre, so this one is for you. ?Because I loved Archer’s Voice so much, I decided to return to Mia Sheridan and chose her book Grayson’s Vow, book 8 in the Sign of Love series. I’m so glad I made that choice because I thoroughly enjoyed this very complicated story of two people who so desperately need love and who have so much trouble accepting it because each of them has suffered betrayal at the hands of those who should love them the most. I really liked the way the author developed the story line. It starts off as a pretty straightforward, but creative solution for two people who are in need of money to gain their independence. They get married, split an inheritance, and, oh, by the way . . . they wind up falling in love resulting in an HEA for listeners, right? Wrong! As the plot evolves, Kira Dallaire and Grayson Hawthorn find their straightforward solution and their burgeoning relationship will have a high cost as layer after complex layer of lies, duplicity, and painful revelations from the past are peeled back.

Grayson’s Vow is my first experience with narrators Maxine Mitchell (aka Julie McKay) and Joe Arden.  Their performances are very effective in this book where each chapter is written from either Kira’s or Grayson’s point of view. Ms. Mitchell’s voice has the appropriate youthful quality for the NA genre and Mr. Arden successfully conveys Grayson’s metamorphosis from the worldly-wise and slightly disillusioned man he is in the early chapters to a man who wants to be worthy of love.  Ms. Mitchell and Mr. Arden perform the different voices and accents of the other characters, especially the English couple who’ve parented Grayson as if he were their own child, with equal skill.

Lovers of the New Adult/Contemporary Romance genre will find Grayson’s Vow a captivating story. Kira and Grayson are engaging and likable even when they’re not, and there is plenty of angst and steamy sex. Throw in a precious rescue dog and you have a listen that will keep you engrossed for hours.
