He seethes with raw power the first time I see him–pure menace and rippling muscles in shackles. He’s dangerous. He’s wild. He’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.

So I hide behind my prim glasses and my book like I always do, because I have secrets too. Then he shows up in the prison writing class I have to teach, and he blows me away with his honesty. He tells me secrets in his stories, and it’s getting harder to hide mine. I shiver when he gets too close, with only the cuffs and the bars and the guards holding him back. At night I can’t stop thinking about him in his cell.

But that’s the thing about an animal in a cage–you never know when he’ll bite. He might use you to escape. He might even pull you into a forest and hold a hand over your mouth so you can’t call for the cops. He might make you come so hard, you can’t think.

And you might crave him more than your next breath.

~ My Thoughts ~

The story of Grayson and Abby is not exactly what I thought it would be.  Actually, I was very surprised at their story.  While most things I read about the book classified it as dark, I would have to say I thought it was more along the lines of suspense.  If you’re a lover of dark reads, don’t stop reading now …

Prisoner is a complex look into the mind and souls of these Grayson and Abby.  Both written with such intensity I bet after the first paragraph you’ll be hooked.

Abby is on the fast track to achieve her goals as a student and move forward into the real world, where she knows she will flourish in her career.  Grayson is counting days, hours and minutes, paying for the crimes he has committed against the outside world.  An assignment is given, paths cross and that is where the story of Abby and Grayson begin.

Written in a dual point of view which only enhances the reading experience, we get to see, feel and relish in both characters thought process, the emotional impact of those thoughts and a keen insight into what makes these two characters tick.  The authors did a fantastic job of always leaving something unsaid which in turn for me at least created a mystery that had my mind reeling.  Both characters have secrets.  A slow reveal of this added intrigue and a desire to know more.   The surprises are many, limits are tested, faith, truth, lies and the words unspoken really make this an interesting story.  The chemistry between the characters is off the charts and you can feel the rawness, the intense desire, the confusion and the feeling of being stripped bare.  The group of sub characters each add their own special twist to the story.  I honestly feel that these sub characters complete this well rounded story.

Prisoner is a story that encompasses suspense, romance, retribution of the past, living in the moment and discovering who you really are and what it is that you really want.
