The Pawn ~ Endgame #1

The price of survival…

Gabriel Miller swept into my life like a storm. He tore down my father with cold retribution, leaving him penniless in a hospital bed. I quit my private all-girl’s college to take care of the only family I have left.

There’s one way to save our house, one thing I have left of value.

My virginity.

A forbidden auction…

Gabriel appears at every turn. He seems to take pleasure in watching me fall. Other times he’s the only kindness in a brutal underworld.

Except he’s playing a deeper game than I know. Every move brings us together, every secret rips us apart. And when the final piece is played, only one of us can be left standing.

~ My Thoughts ~

There are so many things that I loved about this book.  The characters, the premise, the internal struggles, the truth, lies and everything in between.

Gabriel is everything I look for in a male character.  Decadent, arrogant, powerful, sinfully sexy, strong, intoxicating and intimidating.  Avery is a wonderful combination of intelligence, strength and determination.   The two together though, they are amazing.

Unlike other auction books I have read, the story isn’t a fast I paid for you I get you tale.  It’s an emotional roller coaster of a ride that leads you down so many paths.  The family dynamic, the girlfriend/boyfriend, the friends and the enemies are what makes The Pawn such a fantastic story.  It’s a story of mixed emotions, truths, lies, sex, scandal and surprises .  It’s a story of survival, strength, determination, destruction and confusion.

The many layers that create these intriguing characters are revealed slowly.  Their words and actions surprise and delight.  Emotions run deep and cut through your heart.  The desire is all about anticipation.  Drawing it out in a deliciously slow manner making you sigh when the characters come together.

I loved every word of this book.  It held me tight and kept me captive while reading.
