Eight Random Facts About Emancipating Andie
By Priscilla Glenn
- This is not a love triangle book! Nor is there any cheating. I’ve gotten lots of questions about that, so I felt compelled to let you know right off the bat.
- The original title of EA was With Your Heart. My friend Brett, who’s an author and screenwriter, teased me mercilessly about it. And I mean mercilessly. To the point that I’d be at work and get a random text from him saying something like, “It really might be the worst title ever” or “My friend’s kid has a Winnie the Pooh book called “Pooh Gets Stuck” – still a better title than “With Your Heart.” (yes, I LOL’ed) Eventually I caved and changed the title, although I do miss getting those texts. 🙂
- I can actually play “Colorblind” by Counting Crows on the piano; the chords and notes mentioned are all accurate. I’m obsessed with the song and taught myself how to play it a couple of years ago. To be fair though, Andie’s story of learning how to play it is way better than mine. 😉
- I’m part Greek, and my grandmother could speak it fluently. I can still say a few things, but I had to call in reinforcements to help with the Greek translation of Andie’s mother’s advice. (If you plug it into a translation program online, it gives you the actual Greek letters, not the phonetic spelling, so I was totally lost.) I ended up contacting a childhood friend through facebook, and he was nice enough to help me out. (Thank you, Gus!)
- Public Service Announcement: Don’t listen to Chase; Lemon Drops are not girly! I was bamboozled into believing that back in my college days, but Lemon Drops are lethal. They sneak up on you. They are a force to be reckoned with. And they are damn delicious 😉
- I knew close to nothing about Tybee Island before I wrote EA – but after doing my research, I want to go there. Badly. And no, it has nothing to do with envisioning Chase sitting on that hill by the Headkeeper’s Cottage. (Okay, it might have a little something to do with that…)
- The first scenes I “saw” when I came up with the idea for EA were the cellar scene and the scene on the dance floor at the wedding.
- And finally, the playlist for Emancipating Andie:
About the Author: Priscilla Glenn lives in New York with her husband and three children. She has been teaching English Language Arts at the middle and high school levels for the past eleven years while moonlighting as a writer, mommy, coach, student, and professional laundry-doer.
If you catch her when she’s feeling sophisticated, she’ll tell you her favorite things are great books and good wine. In the moments in between, she’ll admit her love for anything Ben and Jerry’s, UFC fights, and Robert Pattinson. Emancipating Andie is Glenn’s second novel. She is also the author of the contemporary romance/young adult crossover, Back to You.

Book Description
Ever since the one time Andie Weber threw caution to the wind – and paid the price for it – she’s learned that it’s safer and smarter to live life playing by the rules. Now she’s got a great apartment, a steady job, and a wonderful boyfriend in Colin; he’s sweet, stable, and essentially perfect – except maybe for the fact that his best friend is Chase.
Chase McGuire lives his carefree, unstructured life strictly for himself. Dripping sarcasm and oozing wit, he refuses to censor his feelings or opinions for anyone, making no apologies for either and wearing his abrasiveness like a badge of honor. No one has ever gotten under Andie’s skin the way Chase does – and vice versa.
So when Andie and Chase find themselves forced to take a two-day road trip together, they are already dreading an inevitable all-out war. But as the trip progresses, and the undeniable friction that has always defined their relationship slowly begins to wear away their preconceived notions of each other, Andie and Chase discover they both have a lot to learn about life, courage, happiness, and the age-old battle between logic and love.
