HELL HATH NO FURY . . .

For five thousand years, Revenant believed he was alone in the world, a fallen angel beyond any redemption. Now he finds he has a twin brother who had all the light and love Revenant was denied. Caught in a tug of war between Heaven and Hell, he must weigh his thirst for revenge against his desire for a mysterious female named Blaspheme—a female whose very origins could deliver him into salvation . . . or destruction.

LIKE AN ANGEL SCORNED

Blaspheme has a deadly secret: she's the forbidden offspring of an angel and a fallen angel. Hunted by both heavenly and satanic forces, she has survived only by laying low and trusting no one. When Revenant claims he can save them both, how can she possibly believe him? But the powerful angel is persistence incarnate and for Blaspheme, there's no place she can hide in Heaven or Hell where he won't find her . .

“Wonderfully Wickedly Paranormal Romance”

Can you get misty eyes while reading a paranormal romance?  I got pretty misty eyed while reading Larissa Ione’s Revenant.  This is the eleventh book in the Demonica series and the sixth in the Lords of Deliverance series by Ione, the acknowledgement at the start of the book make it sound like it may possibly be the last of these combined series.  I hope not as I have come to love these books and this author. I have to admit that when I  picked up the first Demonica book, Pleasure Unbound (2008), and read it was just floored and was not sure I would even continue to read after the first twenty percent.  Demons as the not so bad guys, what the HELL! I doubted that Ione, even knew what genre she was writing in.  Well Ms. Ione set the paranormal romance genre on it’s collective ear and has written imaginative, fun, witty, sarcastic, irreverent and thrilling books.  Revenant like all Ione’s book is not a typical urban fantasy/ paranormal romance, yes good and evil clash, but what is at the heart of all of Ione’s Demonica books is the family.  These books are about family, which happens to be comprised of  beings of Heaven, Hell, some morally grayish ones, and the staff  of Underground General (the hospital where a lot of the characters, or their spouses work).  Family good, bad or in-between is what matters in this series, how no matter what the blood bond, the social bonds are what tie these characters together; and even when you might want to kill someone or disembowel them they are still you family.  It is that dynamic that sets these books apart from others in the genre.  It is Ione’s powerfully written characters, her fabulous world building and the familiar plots that kept me coming back again and again.  It’s because of this that Ione’s books have never felt recycled, as sometime happen when series run this long.  Every book in this dual series is fresh and riveting, and I always get that happy feeling of an adventure well lived, as I finish the last page of the book.

Revenant focuses on the dynamic between Revenant the main character a Shadow Angel and his brother Reaver a Radiant Angel.  Revenant despite being an angel was raised in Shoeul (hell) and Reaver in Heaven. These two brothers have some major baggage.  They have only know that they were twins for two weeks, as each has been living without their memories for thousands of years. They have some issues that need to be worked out, something about the end of the world and a hell spawns impending birth.  Into the mix comes Blaspheme a sexy doctor with her own life threatening baggage.  She is a sexy False Angel (think sex kitten porn star, who tricks humans by lies and deceit), she is definitely living by lies and deceit.   Revenant is drawn to Blaspheme and she is drawn to him, with deadly explosive consequences.  The thrill ride that Ione provides as Heaven and Hell duke it out, is fanfreakingtastic.  The emotional roller coaster that Revenant is on, tore at my heart and made me misty at times, despite him being a formally evil bastard.  The sexual fireworks are scorching hot and put a capital E in the word erotic.

The conclusion of this phenomenal story arc leaves not loose ends and fans of the series, will be very happy at the conclusion.  I loved that despite this possible being the last in this series, it wasn’t one of those horrid reunion television specials, as Ione knows her craft and her readers.  I for one can’t wait to see where

As with all of Ione’s Demonica/Lords of Deliverance, these books are not stand alones, each book builds on the previous stories and yes you could pick up this book and read a great story; but you would be missing out on all the nuisance of this stellar series if you did.  If you have not read Ione you really should, as you won’t be disappointed.
