Thea Harrison is one of my pre – order authors, no matter what she writes I know I will enjoy the stories she spins. In Midnight Kiss, the Elder Race series is in San Francisco with the political upheaval of the Nightkind demnse. Julian who we first met in Serpent’s Kiss (Elder Races Book 3) is the main romantic lead in this book. How could this possibly be a good book as I HATED JULIAN, he tried to have Carling killed! Well I am glad to announce that I no longer hate Julian. Harrison has let us into the world of the Roman general; and because of this, his prior actions make more logical sense, and I don’t want to impale him.
As the previous book Night’s Honor ended Melisande was kidnapped. This book centers around Melly’s (Melisande) kidnapping and the politically maneuvering of the Nighkind Vampyres. As with most of Harrison’s Elder Race books, this one has mulitple layers and plots taking place within the main romance, or fight that is Julian and Melisande relationship. This isn’t a new relationship, as it was set up in Night’s Honor that this couple had a fiery past. He is the head of the Nightkind and she is the heir to the Light Fae court; so their previous relationship was not without it’s political bumps on the road. The adventure in Midnight Kiss, is fraught with danger, rabid feral vampyres, political machinations, betrayal, assassination attempts and evil jinn, could you ask for anything more? NOPE, neither could I, this is a book that is well worth the money.
