New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh takes us into a dangerous and exhilarating world where a deadly, beautiful archangel and his once-mortal consort are caught in a fury of twisted darkness... "Raphael and Elena are the heart of this series...they are what keep me coming back for more."--Fiction Vixen One of the most vicious archangels in the world has disappeared. No one knows if Lijuan is dead or has chosen to Sleep the long sleep of an immortal. But with her lands falling into chaos under a rising tide of vampiric bloodlust, a mysterious and ancient order of angels known as the Luminata calls the entire Cadre together to discuss the fate of her territory. Accompanying her archangelic lover Raphael to the Luminata compound, guild hunter-turned-angel Elena senses that all is not as it seems. Secrets echo from within the stone walls of the compound, and the deeper Elena goes, the uglier the darkness. But neither Raphael nor Elena is ready for the brutal truths hidden within--truths that will change everything Elena thinks she knows about who she is... Nothing will ever be the same again.

Elena and Raphael at their best and most dominate characters that Nalini Singh has ever written. In the first book in this series Raphael tries to kill Elena. Wow! Usually heroes don’t try to kill the heroine, but then again Singh broke the mold with this couple. I adore that Singh in Guild Hunter series gives her readers both new couples to love and still explores the relationship of the two great characters that started the series Guild Hunter Elena Devereaux and the Archangel of New York Raphael. This book explores Elena’s roots as she and Raphel and the Cadre are called to task by an Angel philisophical sect called Luminata.
There are so many twist and turns in this book that my head felt like it was on a swivel and Singh never let me catch my breath, which was perfect. While the characters were in danger, I was kept on the edge of my seat. Everything I as a reader thought I knew about Elena’s past was upended by the fabulous read. The Cadre is in full force and that can only mean one think for the Archangel of New York and his Consort, danger.
Why I recommend this book! LOTS OF ADODHEN
