#1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sandra Brown jolts the reader from the first page of this heart-pounding story of corruption, treachery, and ceaseless deception . . . where nothing is what it seems and every truth brought to light exposes a darker lie.
When Jordie Bennet and Shaw Kinnard lock eyes across a disreputable backwater bar, something definitely sparks. Shaw gives off a dangerous vibe that makes men wary and inspires women to sit up and take notice. None feel that undercurrent more strongly than savvy businesswoman Jordie, who doesn't belong in a seedy dive on the banks of a bayou. But here she is . . . and Shaw Kinnard is here to kill her.
As Shaw and his partner take aim, Jordie is certain her time has come. But Shaw has other plans and abducts Jordie, hoping to get his hands on the $30 million her brother has stolen and, presumably, hidden. However, Shaw is not the only one looking for the fortune. Her brother's ruthless boss and the FBI are after it as well. Now on the run from the feds and a notorious criminal, Jordie and Shaw must rely on their wits-and each other-to stay alive.
Miles away from civilization and surrounded by swampland, the two play each other against their common enemies. Jordie's only chance of survival is to outwit Shaw, but it soon becomes clear to Shaw that Jordie isn't entirely trustworthy, either. Was she in on her brother's scam, or is she an innocent pawn in a deadly vendetta? And just how valuable is her life to Shaw, her remorseless and manipulative captor? Burning for answers-and for each other-this unlikely pair ultimately make a desperate move that could be their last.
With nonstop plot twists and the tantalizing sexual tension that has made Sandra Brown one of the world's best-loved authors, STING will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the final pages.

I have been a fan of Sandra Brown’s since I was introduced to her work more years ago than I can remember, so Sting, her latest book, isn’t my first by this author. It isn’t even my first audiobook by her, and it isn’t my first of her books narrated by Stephen Lang. It is the first of her books I’ve listened to since I started doing my weekly audiobook feature for the blog, and what a first for my audiobook fans! Sting shares the common threads that have earned Ms. Brown such a wide and faithful fan base. You will find suspense and mystery, twists and turns, characters who are good, bad, and utterly human, and you will find a plot that is so convoluted with an outcome that is so unexpected, you will be captivated to the end. I might also add that there is Ms. Brown’s signature touch of romance. We know in our hearts Shaw Kinnard and Jordie Bennet are two heat-seeking missiles aimed at each other. Even though you have to wait for it, the wait is worth it because the sexual tension and the inevitability of the explosive love scenes are toe-curlingly delicious!
Actor Stephen Lang is another of those narrators who underscores why I love audiobooks. His performance of Shaw Kinnard is perfect. And who is Shaw Kinnard anyway? Is he a ruthless murderer, a sadistic kidnapper, a rogue law enforcement agent, or just another bad guy who takes pride in proclaiming “nobody likes me”? Regardless of which persona the narrator is interpreting, listeners will always find Shaw intriguing and sexy as hell! Another superb performance is that of Jordie Bennet’s brother Josh. This is a character that runs the gamut from mischievous child to psychotically disturbed adult, and Mr. Lang reads each one flawlessly.
A distinguishing quality of Sandra Brown’s work that has kept me coming back for years is I know I will be satisfied with the ending. It may not always be the one I wanted, but it will be one that writes The End to the book. It will be neither predictable nor a “gotcha”, but one that makes me wonder why I couldn’t see it was the only outcome that fit the story. Fans of Ms. Brown will find Sting a worthy newcomer in her long history of compelling story lines. I highly recommend the audio version because Stephen Lang adds so much depth to Shaw Kinnard’s character. You won’t be able to stop the sighs when Shaw says “nobody likes me” and Jordie responds “I like you.” ?
