Natalie Greco loves being a teacher, even though she can't keep her students from cruising sex.com during class. She loves her family, too, but her boyfriend fits in better with the football-crazy Grecos than she does. Then a colleague, handsome Angus Holt, talks Nat into teaching a class at a local prison, and her world turns upside down.
A violent prison riot breaks out, and Nat rushes to save the life of a mortally wounded guard whose last words are: "Tell my wife it's under the floor." Nat delivers the cryptic message, but before she knows it, she's suspected of murder and hiding from cops and killers alike. She is forced on the run to solve the riddle of the dead man's last words and to save her own life—and find real love.

Lisa Scottoline is an author who never fails to stump me with her endings, and Daddy’s Girl is no exception. It’s best to just go with the storyline word by word and leave the detective work to whichever character happens to be in charge of solving the mystery. In this case, it’s a lovable law professor, Natalie Greco, who finds herself up to her eyeballs (which honestly aren’t too far from the ground) in a big ole mess which could easily cost her everything, including her life, as she looks for justice.

I purchased the eBook version because of special pricing, currently $.99, on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Even though it is an older book I wanted to do a quick review since I liked the story and the characters so much. Professor Natalie Greco is just cruising along, living her life. She has a nice boyfriend and big loving family to whom she is something of a pet and is known as “Gnat” because of her small stature. Readers will love the Greco family. In this intense plot, their interactions are great comic relief. I especially loved her brother Paul whose dialogue is all written in shouty capitals like you’re not supposed to do on social media unless you want to be rude. It was a neat tool the author used because I could just picture him! Isn’t it true of all of us that we just can’t stand too much normalcy in our lives. Well, Natalie is no different.  She questions her ability as a teacher and is stressing over whether or not she’ll achieve tenure, that Holy Grail of all teachers. Her relationship with her boyfriend is flat. . .he seems to prefer the company of her brothers to hers. Of course, under these circumstances, you can almost guess The Pied Piper is going to come along and he does, in the guise of Angus Holt, an offbeat, but very attractive colleague, who gives her a peek at just a little danger to start the ball rolling. And the ball rolls and rolls and begins to unravel until Natalie finds herself in so much trouble, I didn’t see how she could get out of it.

If you are a fan of Ms. Scottoline, I invite you to treat yourself to this book while the price is right. It will be a good introduction to her work and her unique way of throwing curve balls at her readers.  She also offers a bit of a history lesson at the end of the book. I always love when authors take the time to educate and to show themselves and the background for their inspiration.
