Karen’s Thoughts

Reason why you should read Magic Binds by Ilona Andrews the snark and the heart. Those two words sum up why the Kate Daniels series, trumps every other urban fantasy series. As no matter how deadly, or how the deck is stacked against Kate, the heroine of the series, she will jump into the jaws of death to safe the world and at the same time be giving said world the finger.  Despite the gal being a demi God and having a psychotic God for a father, she is grounded by the family she has made for herself, from the weird and wild of post shift Atlanta.

If you are a new reader to the series please not that these are not stand alone books.  Yes, they are readable as standalone stories, by the brilliant writing of Ilona Andrews does include the ability for a newbie to follow the stories, but new readers will miss out on not reading from book one.  The books are written in first person point of view via Kate Daniels.  The sex in the books is not the thrust of the series, as these are urban fantasy romances, so if you are looking for hot and heavy thrusting you will be disappointed, puns intended.  The reality, is that Andrews can write one sex scene better that most other authors can write full on erotica.  When sex happens it is the deep abiding love type of intimacy that transcends a mere moment in time.  LOVE IT!
This latest book is full of danger and mystery with plenty of the snark and heart to keep a devoted fan up all night and the next morning lacking sleep, and not carrying, as the book is so worth it.

This has nothing to do with the story and the publisher sets the price, and this book isn’t cheap, as it comes in hardcover. I did receive a review copy, but I put my money where my mouth is and have a purchase copy too. Yes this book is worth every penny.

About Ilona Andrews

Ilona Andrews is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. author2sm“Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Oregon with their two children, three dogs and a cat. They have co-authored two series, the bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and romantic urban fantasy of The Edge.
