A sinner’s only hope is true love in this passionate new novel in J.R. Ward’s #1 New York Times bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood series.
Syn has kept his side hustle as a mercenary a secret from the Black Dagger Brotherhood. When he takes another hit job, he not only crosses the path of the vampire race’s new enemy, but also that of a half-breed in danger of dying during her transition. Jo Early has no idea what her true nature is, and when a mysterious man appears out of the darkness, she is torn between their erotic connection and the sense that something is very wrong.
Fate anointed Butch O’Neal as the Dhestroyer, the fulfiller of the prophecy that foresees the end of the Omega. As the war with the Lessening Society comes to a head, Butch gets an unexpected ally in Syn. But can he trust the male—or is the warrior with the bad past a deadly complication?
With time running out, Jo gets swept up in the fighting and must join with Syn and the Brotherhood against true evil. In the end, will love true prevail...or was the prophecy wrong all along?

~ Maria’s Review ~

The Sinner by JR Ward is book 19 in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I absolutely LOVE this series. Technically, the novels can be read as standalones because they focus on a central hero and heroine. But there is an overall storyline that continues in each book. So, while, you don’t have to read all the books in order, I feel the storyline would be best appreciated if all books are read in order. But that’s me.

Although not my favorite in the series, I did like The Sinner. The characters of Jo and Syn are connected to the Brotherhood in a different way than my beloved OG Brotherhood characters. They add a different perspective. Syn is part of the Band of Bastards led by XCor and Jo, who we’ve seen in the series before, is a nice addition and ties up some questions that were introduced in earlier books. I must admit my favorite parts of this story are those involving Butch and Vishous.

I feel the pacing of the book was a little slow for me. I usually get lost in the story. That didn’t really happen for me this time. There were definitely parts and times that I got consumed in while reading. I loved the last 20% of the book. Author JR Ward ties up many loose ends and answers the questions raised in this installment.

There were moments where I laughed out loud and I got emotional at some parts. There were a few plot twists that I did not see coming and left me like What?! But they fit seamlessly in the storyline. Author JR Ward sets up the future of the Brotherhood saga perfectly. I look forward to reading what comes next. Love The BDB!!!

About J.R. Ward

J.R. Ward is the number one New York Times bestselling author of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series of vampire books. She is a winner of the prestigious Romance Writers of America RITA award for Best Paranormal Romance and is a multiple RITA nominee. A graduate of Smith College, she was a double major in History and Art History with a medieval concentration in both and she still longs at times for a return to those days sitting in dark lecture halls, looking at slides of old triptychs and reliquaries. Prior to becoming a full-time writer, she was a corporate attorney, serving for many years as the Chief of Staff of one of Harvard Medical Schools premier teaching sites. Her idea of absolute heaven is a day filled with nothing but her computer, her dog and her coffee pot and the Brothers, of course.
